As one of the oldest buildings in the city (1787), an imposing structure oozing with history. But just a great pity that like most of Maputo, it is run-down, dirty and surrounded by litter. It would seem that the new dispensation wants to forget about their colonial past, allowing beautiful old buildings such as this to go to wrack and ruin, instead of capitalising on its tourism potential. However, it’s still worth a visit! Just read up in Wikipedia on its history first, as there are virtually no information boards.
