“Not bad,but needs improvement”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

The Hotel is a former Ibis Hotel, which needs left and right some retouching. When in town for a clean bed and shower, you found the right place. The breakfast is nothing much but lunch and dinner are good. Outside terrace to accomodate smokers. On the entrance heartwarming streetsellers, varying from phones, paintings, jewelry, for who wants it. Unclear wifi, centrally located, but could be much better. 5 people at reception all looking the other way when you want to ask for something.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the streetside, as otherwise you will be facing a lot of concrete

I stayed at the Turismo for 3 days in November 2013. The room was dirty (stains everywhere, hair on bathroom floor, large chips of paint off walls) and I had to go beg for toilet paper at the reception desk. Internet access didn't work despite being advertised on the website. Breakfast was dry slices of bread and miniature buns served on a messy buffet. There is bottled water for sale but none complimentary like in every other hotel in the world. Staff was dismissive and clearly not interested in offering any kind of service. This hotel is obviously only a profit center for its owner who doesn't have a clue about hospitality.

After having read all these comments on Tripadvisor I was not very happy that I would have to stay 2 weeks in this hotel. The first impression was not good as the people at the reception seemed unfriendly and a little ignorant. However during the following days they turned out to be more helpful. The room was ok, not very beautiful, but funtional and it was cleaned every day and the towels were daily changed as well.

The breakfast was good: coffee, tea, juice, different kinds of bread, fresh fruits, scrumbled eggs on demand. The restaurant is expensive and most of the meals are not very tasty, but the service is friendly. If you need to eat there you should probably try the pasta.
If you want to use the internet you pay 40Mets (= 1€) per hour, but there might be some times when there is no internet available anymore (another option is using the internet in the shopping center at the food court which has the same system and prices as the hotel). The internet cannot be used in your room - just in the lobby or the restaurant!

The location is good as the shopping center, the ferry to Catembe, the municipal market and the train station are within a short walking distance.
Cabs are quite expensive (200 to 500Mets) and even more expensive if you take one close to the hotel. The normal price from the airport to the hotel is 500Mets. You can try to get it cheaper, but at least do not pay more than that.

If you are on business in my opinion this hotel is totally fine if you do not expect too much.

This is a lousy hotel. The rooms are barely equipped, everything is run down and looks cheap and worn out. You do not feel like spending any time in those rooms. Service is bad. I had promblems with the room safe and it took them ages to send people for repair while they pretended that somebody would be coming any minute. You have to pay for internet. Breakfast is boring, the surroundings are noisy. If I can help it, I will never stay here again

not only for the price, but is really not a pleasant place to stay. the have a nice restaurant terrace, but that is it... the rooms are not comfortable, furniture braking into peaces, the bathroom not clean at all, we got stuck in the elevator!!! this hotel needs a MAJOR refurbishement. and there are really better places for almost the same price like the pestana (if you book online).

Great location in central Maputo walking distance from restaurants and shopping. All accommodation is pricey in Maputo, so while this would be expensive anywhere else, it's budget for here. I was booked in by my company and after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor II packed an extra towel and tolietpaper and prepared for the worst. But it was perfectly fine. There were fresh towels every day, the hot water worked perfectly, so did the aircon and the TV. The bed was a bit lumpy, but otherwise no complaints. Breakfast was lovely with real filter coffee, numerous pastries, fresh fruit cheese and boiled eggs. The restaurant otherwise was a bit of a rip-off though- don't accept the bread rolls as they will charge you for them!
