“Saddle Hill Desert tour - a bucket list item”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Ask yourself haw many placed exists on the planet where you don't find sigaret butts? This is one of those where nature has been left largely untouched by humans. In this desert you really get away from it all and experience nature in all it's beauty and fierceness.
The guided desert trip was awesome, exhilarating and great fun. We spent 4 days and 3 nights in the desert driving sand tracks and sometimes quite challenging dunes. The guide had the ability to judge the offroad ability of every driver and assisted with advice where needed.
The accommodation quite rustic, but the scenery makes up for this.

It is one of those trips that one absolutely has to do - some people even more that once in their life.

“Namib Desert, Desert Magic Tours Namibia 4x4”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

This was an organised 4x4 camping trip through the southern Namib Desert. The group (made up of about 12 4x4 vehicles) met on the first evening on a farm near Aus; the camp was set up under some magnificent camel thorn trees. The food was cooked on site throughout, and even though our friends had specified beforehand that they were vegetarians, absolutely no effort was made for them - they were served rice & salad most nights. The camp fires used the protected camel thorn trees for fuel, and the synthetic sacks this wood was stored in, was also burnt on the fires - creating a disgusting and toxic smoke. None of the chefs or "kitchen staff" washed their hands after using the toilet. Processed meat, processed cheese, white bread and margarine made up lunch every day. The combined knowledge of basic geology, flora and fauna amongst the organisers was zilch. The noise pollution and the tyre track marks left in the oldest desert in the world was a disgrace. I feel embarrassed that my presence on this trip contributed to the destruction of the natural beauty of this sacred place. Our trip was sold to us by Bhejane Adventures, and we had been assured of many walks and knowledgeable talks - none of which took place: alas! and BEWARE : this trip is just an excuse for petrol-head vehicle maniacs to go wild in the desert. The intercom radios in each vehicle were compulsory listening, even though most of the chat constituted rugby talk, the Blue Bulls versus whoever else. It is a total disgrace that they are allowed to desecrate the desert in this way.

Great fun driving the desert. Just vast plains of sand !!!
You can see why they say take plenty of water and rations.
Only 4x4 or SUV.
No one seen often for hours
