We loved it here. Had 3 days at the beginning of a business trip and decided to stay here. We could walk in to town through the neighborhoods (avoiding the busy roads) and at night, walk to Joe's Beer Garden. The staff was wonderful. We left and stayed a all 4 star hotels for 2 weeks and Roof of Africa easily could compete with any of them.

All maybe ok, but they are totallt arrogant and smug. They are really doing you a favour by allowing you to stay at this crappy establishment.

This is the second time i stayed at this hotel. My first review had some concerns about security but management have tightened security so now these concerns are gone. Staff wear uniforms, better lights and door locks being replaced.

Namibia has always been a safe place with a low crime rate. This sadly seems to change now with an increase in petty thefts, so security is important. Never leave valuables in your room, not even in a room safe. This is a general advice regardless where you stay, not directed to this hotel only.

Now, Roof of Africa is a splendid place to stay at. It is located a few kilometers from the city centre. Just take a taxi if you want to go shopping, they are easy to get and cheap, about Nam$ 40 to city centre.

I had a luxury room and I believe it cost Nam$ 850. This includes high speed internet in the room (wired, wire in room). If you don't stay in a room with internet, wireless internet is available by purchasing vouchers at the reception. And finally, if you don't bring your own computer, a guest computer is available at the bar.

Roof of Africa has a small swimming pool, a small animal garden with turtles a goat and some birds. Fun for the kids. In the evening they have a very good buffet. Breakfast is included in the room price, also very good.

But if you love beer and good food, the hotel is only 5 min walk from the famous Joes Beerhouse.

I can recommend this hotel anyone that want to stay a few days in Windhoek, go for the luxury rooms. The basic ones are cheap and clean but no frills. Parking is inside the hotel walls and has 24h security.

We had an unavoidable stopover in Windhoek and selected the Roof of Africa because it looked the least "conference hotel" in character of those on offer. It's quite a small hotel, with an attractive open plan bar and dining area - slightly spoilt by American RnB and rap played constantly at high volume.

Staff were friendly and reasonably efficient. Our room was fairly anonymous in decor but clean and comfortable, with aircon. It was situated in the area facing the pool, which all guests seem to have to pass to go to and from their rooms so it wasn't very quiet. We were woken around 6 am by several people wheeling suitcases noisily across the paving slabs.

We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but did have breakfast there. Slightly haphazard service with a couple of orders slightly wrong and a lack of cutlery. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable.

For a budget accomodation, which it is, it is very good. Rooms comfortable and well equipped - including a/c and heating. Good breakfast, ok buffet dinner. Super friendly and helpful reception staff, namely Natasha.

If paying with a credit card you will be charged an extra "service fee".

The immediate surroundings do not look especially inspiring, but include the "cult" Joe's Beerhouse. Very good O Portuga restaurant used to be across the street from the Joe's but just moved somewhere not far away - don't trust old guides and find out their new address before going.
