Kiripotib Guest Farm
Reviewed 28 April 2010

I visited Farm Kiripotib with my wife Hannah and absolutely loved it!

It is set in the middle of the Kalahari, offers stunning views of the surrounding area, sweeping gras lands that show decades of conservative and sustainable farming principles. The place is originally a commercial Namibian farm and basically produces organic meat (cattle and lamb) - no hormones, stimulants nothing but pure grazing with little interruption.

The accomodation was stunning, well kept, clean as can be, luxurious and lot's of space. Not too much tourism here that's for sure.

The lodge/guest farm is well kept with lush gardens and lots of indigenous trees and shrubs plus a big vegetable garden producing lots of produce at the farm!

Dining and wining was excellent with great service (Isaac, Lynos!!!) and Makwara from Zimbabwe is an outstanding chef!

Then, there are lots of activities that made our trip there seem overly short:

Gliding (soaring) with some of the world's best conditions - (search for the separate website).
Astrology (star gazing) with the newest equipment you can imagine - (search for the separate website).
A jewellery on the farm.
A weavery plus spinning and dying of all wool on the farm.
Plenty of walks (April was a brilliant month to take advantage of this) to the mountains/ aloe forests/ game camp.
Game drives to dunes as well as the game camp.

Hans and Claudia were great entertainers and helped us get the most of the remaining trip we had planned in Namibia from having done hundreds of safaris (private and commercial) themselves.

Thank you for an awesome time!

Kiripotib Guest Farm is located about two hours from the Windhoek Airport. The road is tarred until you reach Dordabois (about 1/2 way to the farm) and then the road turns to gravel. Hans and Claudia have owned the farm for 30 years. The unique thing about this farm is the onsite weavery. The rugs are absolutely stunning (made with local wool). Claudia has an onsite jewelry workshop and also a small shop of items from many areas of Africa. She can tell you the stories of origin behind all of the various items. Claudia also owns stores in Swakopmund and Cape Town (Kirikana Art) that sell the same wares.

Room: There are two bungalows on site and we were lucky to have one. There was quite a bit of remodeling going on in the main building and when finished, there will be many smaller, double rooms. I would highly recommend the bungalow. It was spacious, well-decorated, bright and included a kettle and mini-bar.

Meals: All meals are eaten as a group -- afternoon coffee/tea/cake, dinner and breakfast. Hans and Claudia joined the guests for all meals and lively conversation paired with excellent food made this a special time of day.

Activities: Farm tours (included), sundowners, two marked walking trails, donkey cart rides and if you are interested in astronomy be sure to inquire. There is often an astronomer on site.

Bottom line: Their web page very accurately describes the guest farm. A great place to begin or end your trip to Namibia.
