“Ideal for a arrival/departure night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013

You probably would not want to stay here for more than a couple of days....but it is ideal for a first or last night stay on arrival/departure from Windhoek Airport. We were heading south, so had to drive in to Windhoek - the airport is half an hour or more out of town - so the hotel was en route.

With a map it is reasonably easy to find, and as many have said , it is in the quiet, suburb of Eros. Security is tight, but I must say we never felt threatened anywhere in Namibia. The hotel is ensconced behind a security wall, and your car is safe. You would not come here unless you had transport.

Our welcome was good, and informative. Our room was "modern" and quite small. There was free wifi and cable TV. The public rooms were good in daytime, but a bit drab/under-lit at night.

The pool was small, but sufficient for an overnight stop.

We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel, having just arrived from an overnight flight, we did not fancy driving out again. The meals were all right, but not gourmet (to be fair, I doubt that they claim to be gourmet). My only real niggle was the lighting, which was "drab" rather than "romantic"

Two rooms by the pool area and a few more rooms on the ground floor. It’s clean, the rooms are quite big and I don’t really have much to say about it, which means it’s bland and good as a transit stay before moving on and/or just arriving from the airport.

The staff is very friendly, but invisible. Although they tell you they are there for your comfort and reinsuring you that they are always there for you, this is not the case. Upon our arrival our driver had to honk the horn, ring the gate bell and make a phone call as it seemed the whole place was asleep. This was at 10 am. The same thing every time we needed attention, whether sitting by the pool, at breakfast, at dinner, in the evening we had to go searching for staff instead of them just being there. I do recommend eating out, not at the hotel, as well as having a plan on what to do if you don’t want to be left alone. In their own commercial guide book they mention their chef a lot, who supposedly is big, wonderful and always attentive. We never saw him. Like I mentioned earlier, the staff is nice… when you get a hold of them.

We spent a night before and after a longer 10-day safari-type tour of Namibia. We found the location a bit out of the town center, but the advantage was that it was quiet. The place is new and all the rooms are very comfortable. There is a super nice community living room area. Breakfast was superb and the staff is very helpful.

We stayed at Galton House at the start and again at the end of our safari. It felt very safe and secure and extremely well run. Staff were very efficent, friendly and most kind - we had had an accident and were treated with great care and consideration. Staff will book tables, taxis and recommend sites - service and concern for welfare is excellent.
The rooms are very clean and well presented, fairly small but there is plenty of public space to enjoy. Food is good and tea and coffee can be made at any time.

Room Tip: Room 1 is very spaceous

This quite and peaceful guest house set in the Eros suburbs of Windhoek provided safety and security with a personal touch and was the ideal beginning to a safari. The rooms while not overly large were very comfortable and clean and provided everything one needed for a brief stay or indeed longer. The service was excellent as was the food and flexibility. The staff and management couldn't do enough for us and were very attentive.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the front of the Guest house if you really want a very quite night. However you...

Galton House is situated in the affluent area of Eros. It’s quite a way form the center of town so you will need a cab to go anywhere. As you will see in Windhoek, everybody is behind huge gate and fence and so is Galton so you will feel very safe. The owner who welcomed was very friendly and efficient as was the rest of the staff. The room overlooked the small car park but its not big deal. The room was large, very well furnished, cute and modern. Great bathroom with good toiletries. You get cable TV and Wifi. The communal parts are very cute and there is a lovely compact swimming pool and terrace. You can have tea and cakes in the afternoon and cooked breakfast was plentiful. A great night sleep after a 15 hours journey! Galton is a good place to rest before going on to explore the rest of Namibia. If I had to stay longer in Windhoek, I would probably try to find something more in the center of town (very small as it it!). the other good thing is that most small airplanes which take you to other parts of Namibia go from Eros airport and not the main international airport which means you are close to it by staying at this B&B

The House is a premium place where you can enjoy the benefits of 4 or 5 star hotels, but in addition the place have a spirit and personalty.
the service is accurate and to the point, the rooms are comfortable and ultra clean.
The food is great as the selection of the wines.

The only but in our case was a bit noisy company of 4 Americans. But no problems after all.
