Great location right in downtown Windhoek. Close to everything, shopping wise. Excellent buffets at their restaurant and rooms are nice, clean and spacious! Great staff too. I would definitely stay here again when in Namibia.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side of the construction site. That can be a bit noisy.

I was quite surprised with the free internet (before it runs out) and the speed, for a South African, is quite fast. Nothing like free slow internet.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Pity the entrance to the hotel is through a mall which is not appealing at all. When we got there there was only one lift working and this took at 3hrs for them to fix it.

All in all a good hotel. Is give it a 3,5 but not a 4.

So the hotel is mediocre and the staff is disinterested, but the deal with the internet is horrendous.

First, you can't get internet service at the front desk. You are required to go up a floor to the "business center." Like I said, it is almost as if they brain-stormed way to make accessing wifi as painful as possible. So either go up to your room to put down you luggage and come back downstairs to but an internet voucher, or drag all you stuff with you.

Then wait in line, because the process takes for ever and there is always a line. So then, it turns out that they give out vouchers at the front desk after the business center closes for hte evening. So I asked the clerk why they couldn't just hand out the vouchers when you check in, instead of fording everyone to go to a whole different part of the hotel? Her answer was "then what would I do?" So the hotel is essentially inconveniencing it's guests to make work for another employee to sell you internet service. It's anti-service.

Then choose an overpriced internet access plan from the menu. And if the system works they print you off a voucher that then lets you know that you have purchased "bandwidth shaped" wifi. Bandwidth shaped, in this case means that the network is throttled down to dial up speed.

Now you have spent 30 minutes to purchased internet that is painfully slow, kicks you off every twenty minutes and is overpriced. Thanks for making my stay miserable.

Post script - It took me three attempts to post this review, because the stupid, punish the customer internet service requires me to log in every few minutes.... aaarrrrrrrrghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

this hotel staff are extremely unproffessional and the management even worse. i had breakfast on the 10th of june at the restuarant where an eldery "guest" or employee of the hotel came and swore at me by my mother and worse because i dared to sit on a 'reserved" table with such a minor reserved sign its impossible to notice. the staff watched as i was verbaly assaulted without intervening. almost choked on my food to finish and get out of there and to-date never recieved even formal acknowledgement or apology from that hotel. i would sincerly recommend any hotel in namibia but this one. no service at all. Worse hotel ever and their four star rating must be the greatest injustice done to travellers as this hotel does not even deserve a star at all.

Room Tip: Stay away from this hotel and ignore this advise to your own detriment.

I last stayed at the Kalahari Sands about 3 years ago and despite its aging appearence it was a very good experience. In the centre of Windhoek, easy walking distance to our offices it is a good postion geographically.

It recently had a big upgrade and whislt one may ahve a new bathroom and flat screen TV the service is not up to the 4 stars that it claims to have.

This hotel looks like it has had a revamp - the rooms are fresh even though is is an old establishment - kudos there!!
From the welcome to asking for ANYTHING - everything seems to be an effort!
-waited till 4pm for my room after Air Namibia booked 10 of us here (so perhaps the reason for the unwelcoming faces & slow room readines)
-no irons in the rooms(typical in thsi regions) but asking for one I was told I either pay for the service or I go down to the laundry room & do the honours myself!
-I baulked at this and the taxi I then asked be called for was never called - I had to go down for reception to action and so ended being late for a dinner with colleages
-ordered room service breakfast & hung teh card at 8pm - I woke up & the card was still hanging & of course....no breakfast to be seen!!
Business centre needs some work

Saving grace : the Spa with the lovely owner and my therapist Izolda .. even thpough it's no 5* just the breath of fresh air of good old professionalsim & kindness to guests appeals
the Dunes restaurant served the most stunning lunch the day I was there. buffets are usually flat but here it was lovely. staff is attentive too.
the afct that there's a way to train - relationship with a small gym in the same complex

Room Tip: the higher the better seeing this is within a complex & that there's construction across the...

We stayed at the hotel for two nights while we were planning/organizing our Namibia trip. The hotel is located very central with walking distance to major attractions, shopping malls and restaurants. Prices can be high in the season so book early. Rooms are modern, comfortable and clean. Good value for money. Only drawback: wifi is not included in the room rate and needs to be purchased. This is not acceptable for a hotel of this class and price. Every backpacker's lodge offers already free wifi anywhere in the world.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors so you can enjoy the view over Windhoek.
