During the past year I have stayed several times at Kalahari Sands hotel and keep returning. This is mostly due to the great location. The hotel is very centrally located for all sightseeing and business in Windhoek. Shops and museums are close. The hotel is located in a shopping center and there is a supermarket (e.g. for drinks and snacks) in the basement. Taxi-rank is on the opposite side of the road.
All in all the hotel is okay and it is good value for your money.
The hotel is in some need of refurbishment (some carpets are worn-out etc). Rooms are okay. Standard rooms are rather small but executive rooms are nice.
Some refurbishment is going on in the rooms. If you want quietness during the day, ask for a room that has no work going on near-by (this is from 8 am till 5 pm). I had to change rooms because I did some work in my room and could not listen to the hammering.
Excellent breakfast buffet. Room service available, although choice is rather limited. Dinner is served only as buffet and it's okay.
There is a roof-top pool (cold water).
The worst part of the hotel is its elevators. They say they are upgrading them but this was already said in August 2008 (my first visit) and no progress is happening. So be prepared to wait.More
