We stayed in the Safari Court Hotel at the end of our holiday to Namibia. We knew before booking that the Safari Court isn’t a character hotel. We’d chosen it because of the large swimming pool and bathing area which we’d planned to make use of before our return to the British winter.

The swimming pool and bathing area lived up to our expectations, and were a good placed to relax with very comfortable loungers. Unfortunately the area isn’t supervised so at times it was commandeered by groups of seemingly unsupervised teenagers. Still, while we were staying there the hotel was fairly empty so we were able to move to a quieter part of the bathing area and stayed out of the pool. Moving to another part may not be possible in peak season, though, as there are likely to be more people using the facilities.

The room itself was a standard business hotel room although quite large. However, the level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. We had to ask for the sheets on the bed to be changed on our first day as, although they had been cleaned, they still had blood stains on them. The furniture in the room looked as though it hadn’t been polished for some time. For instance, the coffee table still bore marks from cups. Some areas of the room looked as though they hadn’t been dusted for months and the fridge was filthy. Some guests may also find that the noisy air conditioner is intrusive.

Staff at the hotel were variable. Some were very professional and helpful, especially the waitresses at breakfast, our porter and one of the open air restaurant waiters. Others were quite apathetic and lackadaisical. One example was our order for a Greek Salad which turned up minus the feta cheese. On enquiry we found out that they’d run out of feta cheese but hadn’t thought to ask if we still wanted the salad even without the one ingredient that distinguishes the meal as a Greek Salad!

While the Safari Court will never be a character hotel it could still be managed more effectively. We’ve stayed in similar places in the past which were well run and were enjoyable to stay in. We did enjoy our stay there but it could be so much better with a bit of effort.

The hotel is located just nearby the Eros regional airport and includes a conference centre. It dates back to 1989. The comfort an cleanness of our room was just acceptable (we changes the room once). The air conditioning is loud, the rooms were dusty and mostly equipped with single beds which is not very convient for most couples. The food in the restaurant was average. The service at the reception was friendly but extremely slow. All in all, I not sure if this is a great place to end or start a Namibia vacation.

We stayed in Windhoek for a couple of nights at the Safari Court and although its a bit 70's style of south african hotel we were pleasantly surprised, the rooms are very large although the aircon is noisy it worked just adequately, and the bathrooms are quite good apart from the fact they must have got a job lot of Avocado coloured baths and toilets, the bed was fantastic slept like a log which was unusual for me.
The place was spotless and the breakfast was great we ate once in the evening at the restraunt which was quite good also.
The check was OK quite efficient and friendly .
Very close to drive into city centre and amenities.

I found the Safari court a bit strange in that the reception staff were generally very friendly but otherwise the bar staff and restaurant staff were little short of frosty and the maintenance man who came to fix the aircon outright grizzly! Breakfast was o.k. but the service was poor in the restaurant both in the morning and in the evening, though the food on the dinner menu was pretty good. I'd probably try a different hotel on a return visit to Windhoek though for just one or two nights max this hotel is fine.

The Safari is two hotels in one and the guests get to use the facities of both. There are a reasonable selection of restaurants and bars. Food is good and breakfast is excellent. Staff are friendly. Service is laid back. Rooms and general ambience are comfortable if a little dated. Overall this was quite a fun place to stay and was ideal for the conference I attended.
