“Tourist place”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

If you have visitors from abroad this is a nice place to visit. It has an 'african taste'. However there are many more restaurants with better food without mass tourism which you find at this place, it hosts 500 guests every night!

“One of those must see places...”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

Joe's Beer House with it's eclectic decor and pub atmosphere is definitely unique and an experience. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent.

A place to go for a night out. Whether you are interested in drinking or eating out. You can definitely do both. Will go again of I am ever there.

Thank collme

“Trying to push through as many tourists as they can”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

It's difficult to rate this place because, while the decor is fascinating, the feeling is one where they are trying to cram in the tourists. We booked a table for two early that morning, so we were disappointed to find our reserved seats were at a table for six and we were to sit opposite each other with a stranger on either side. Perhaps if we were backpackers we would find this quite nice, a way to meet new people. We insisted on a table for two, and eventually a table was found with much rudeness and slapping down of menus. Also, they said that if you don't want to share a table, you must inform them when booking! If we had not been so tired from a long drive from Etosha, we would've gone elsewhere. Also, my husband remembered a lovely experience from 12 years previously on a work trip, so he wanted me to experience this must-see place.

After a long time a waiter eventually came to serve us, and he was very sweet although not on the ball. We told him we're vegetarian and we ordered one of the three veg options on the menu plus a garden salad, onion rings, and roast potatoes. After another long time he came back to say the veg wrap was not available. So we ordered the pasta. After another age he came back to say the pasta was not available. So we said, well, bring the onion rings, salad, and potatoes in the meantime and we'll have the last of the veg options: the baked butternut. When eventually the food arrived, he informed us that actually there was no butternut either! And then we discovered the roast potatoes were made with meat - why not say so on the menu?! And the garden salad is basically a bed of shredded lettuce drowned in mayonnaise with pieces of apple and orange and bunches of grapes! At least the onion rings were what we were expecting.

I'd say pop in for a beer to see what everyone is talking about and then go elsewhere if you want a decent dining experience.

“Incredible atmosphere”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

This is a cavernous establishment that can apparently accommodate 600 people. On a Sunday evening at around 8pm it was pumping already and the atmosphere was great. Huge selection of food and drink and serice was quick and efficient. A "must-experience" in Windhoek.

“Excellent eclectic place.”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

I have heard of this Restaurant many times from my hubby's various business trips. What a delight. So much to look at! My kids were kept occupied for hours. Its the kind of place that makes you want to down a few shooters! (And we did) Food is good. Good value and service prompt. What a collector Joe must be (there is hardly anything in Namibia, especially to buy, but when you get a collector - they seem to go mad. Joe has a great collection and so too do the Gondwana Group - each of their Lodges seems to have loads of stuff)
