“Okay for Niger, intermittent a/c”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We stayed at Gaweye during November 2013. Some nights were too hot (A/C centrally controlled, no control in the room), whereas for some other nights, a/c would be on and room would be cold.

Breakfast is not of really good quality, lots of bread products.

Good points to staying at Gaweye are: Internet stable and fast enough (one can stream videos without waiting), great security 24/7 at the parking entrance, room spacious, bar open late serving sandwiches, located in front of national museum and zoo.

Lobby is grand, but older. The whole hotel needs upgrade.

I have been booked to stay in the hotel for seven nights. The hotel seems to have gotten a bigger reservation from some government agency and gave our prepaid rooms to them.......have been camping in their foyer for a few hours with total incompetent personnel not even trying to rectify. I am attempting to get a refund to look for other accommodation, but even that proofs to be problematic for the far less than competent staff and management Warning!!! Do not ever book here!!!! Spare yourself a heart attack!

Great. Nice Stay. It seems like you were in the sixties with no renovation since...but all hotels are the same way, and the entrance hall is obviously the most spacious.
Good pool and tennis. Breakfast not that good but acceptable for French or American breakfast. Dinner buffet is small but there is fish, meat, vegetables, rice and potatoes. So enough choice to eat the kind of food we want.
Definitely the best current hotel in niamey.

Room Tip: Room in the niger side are hotter, you may choose the other side if you want to be comfortable rathe...

I spent a few days at this hotel not really by choice but after the first night it's not bad for Niamey. For sure they say it's 4 stars but might be 15 years ago. This hotel really need updates and some cleanup, mainly in their rooms. You'll notice that if the room get a deep cleanup and they ensure that the towels and bedding isn't stained this would be back to a standard european or north american one. The hotel restaurant buffet isn't worth it but the pool side snack bar have excellent pizza and sides. The breakfast buffet is free with the room and basic but good. You can easily change money at the front desk and the rate is very good. The hotel is right next to the river and in front of a zoo in really bad shape. The staff is really nice and helpful, also there is basic security around the hotel. The power is sometime cut but usually for few minutes at the time, that's very normal for the area. One night the ac stopped but the room stayed at 24, still comfortable to sleep. I had a standard room. You need a vehicle if you want to go around, there isn't anything (stores etc.) right next to the hotel.

I stayed in Hotel Geweye for 5 days, it was not a very good stay and I came back with a flue induced by the terrible air in the rooms. The hotel is an old hotel, it could potentially be a really good hotel, but faclity was not being taken care of as it should. The carpets are so old and they smell of smoke. the bed covers has some funny blue and yellow prints and you are not quiet sure if they are clean or not. the bedsheets were very clean though. The hotel is over priced for the poor service and dusty and mouldy rooms that they offer.
I would recommend that you try la Grande Hotel, very close to Gaweye, but a lot cheaper, a lot cleaner, although the bathrooms are not as good as Gaweye's bathrooms.

Room Tip: ask for non-smiking rooms, sleep on the fourth floor, all the other floors smell worse than 4th flou...

Stayed here in September 2013' because Grand hotel was sold out. The hotel seems like it has had no work done since it was built, no renovations or upgrades. Carpets are stained and dirty, smoking is allowed almost everywhere, prostitutes approach customers very freely at the restaurant by the pool, elevator is waiting to breakdown, internet worked twice during a two week stay, Atm never worked. On a positive note, breakfast was better than Grand hotel's and customer service was friendlier. Shuttle to and from airport is free, just book it in advance. Room was spacious and sheets clean, bathroom outdated and no hot water really. When there is a power outage, the lights stay on but ac dies..bring a flashlight just in case as well as your own shampoo etc. I would stay again, if Grand is not a available although I do not think it is worth the price but what can you do..

We had to stay in this Hotel as we had no other options.
The Hotel speaks of a good history but that was in the old days, and for today's standards, i would not give it more than 2 stars.
The loby is wide and comfortable, Internet service is fast, breakfast is OK, pool is fine, lunch buffet was ok, staff are helful and friendly, however all of the above are fully depreciared and need serious rennovation.
The room was fine, but when suddenly the electricity goes off, the air conditioning stops and it is 40 degrees suring day time and 32 degrees at night!!!
so if you are not used to hot weather, you ar ein big trouble, you can for sure make use of the pool, but only when you have time.
The shower in the tub was broken so you can not hang it and have to keep on holding it with your hand, toweks are old, bed matress is not comfortable, but the lenin was clean and tidy.
In general i was there this time but will not go there again because of mainly the air conditioning thing.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms are better ones
