“Solid option in Reunion”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2013

Though the Mercure Creolia is darn hard to get to (get yourself a good map) up in the hills above St. Denis, it’s got lovely views, decent rooms, and good service. It’s more along the lines of a European three-star hotel than a ****, but it has a very nice restaurant and that counts for something, even if the room wasn’t anything special and the internet was incredibly slow in the evening. It’s not a hotel to get particularly excited about, but Reunion doesn’t have Mauritius’s cavalcade of luxury resorts anyway. Plus the price was very decent for the July night I spent there, and being only 5 minutes from St. Denis and 15 from the airport was quite nice.

All things considered, the Hotel Mercure is a solid option. Nothing to rhapsodize about, but quite decent as far as Reunion options go.

Mercure Creolia has been my favorite when staying in Reunion, room was clean and great view.
The pool is large and beautiful, overlooking the city and the ocean, they also have free wifi that worked reasonably well. The Hotel is rated 4 stars but should be 3 stars.

Creolia has been my favourite when staying in Reunion. Last time was 2 nights in October 2012. Reasons for staying is its proximity to the airport, excellent food, stunning pool and view, and the feeling to be in France, while being on an island.

I ate all meals in the hotel as the food is really good and not pricey. There is also an on-site -albeit small- gym in the property, if you eat too much!

I have repeatedly informed the hotel through their online feedback survey of the little things the hotel could improve: (1) the airport shuttle works from 9 to 5 pm, which is not very helpful as most flights from/to Reunion arrives early morning and departs in the evening. (2) The Accorhotel gold or platinum status could be better acknowledged. At times, it is (with an upgrade) at times it's not, even when the hotel is clearly not full, making one wonder how this works. (3) Make sure that queries made with online booking are always answered to, even if the answer is no.

I would definitely stay again in Creolia during my next stays in Reunion as, despite the above suggestions, it's constantly good value for money.

Room Tip: Do ensure you get a room with a seaview on the upper floors.

Spend 4 nights at the Mercure Creolia, room was clean and view incredible.
Hotel is rated 4 stars by French standard but if you compare it with Asian standard, probably should think of a 3 stars.
Room was very large with a queen bed , we had a big bathroom very bathroom and separate toilets and all the amenities that you would expect from a Mercure. however, what stand out about the Creolia is the staff, very helpful. (Was late putting my dry cleaning but staff went out of their way to make sure that I got it back the same day- this is vey unusual in a French hotel.
Couldn't get an answer from the helicopter company but staff managed to get them for me... This is for me the real luxury

My husband and I disagree on the rating - I would say 3 stars in comparison with other places in Reunion, while he says 1, because he can't think of anything he really liked about it. So we're settling on 2 stars.

We were surprised when we arrived in our room: it was small and smelly, like a room where people have been smoking cigarettes in for years and then tried to get out of the smell with air freshener. It honestly gave me a headache unless we kept the window open, which we did as much as we could. The bed was comfortable, but also small, and the entire room seemed kind of drab. We've stayed at a Mercure in Indonesia, and remember that one as being much much nicer than this one.

The pool is large and beautiful, overlooking the city and the ocean, but it's unfortunately very windy there (and seems to be frequently), making it difficult to lie by the pool, which is how we had planned to spend our last afternoon before leaving the island.

The hotel is also removed from the town center, reducing your dining options, unless you have a car or want to take the shuttle into town (which no one told us about, so we didn't even learn of until we were about to check out). We ate dinner there, and it was good, but the breakfast options seemed ridiculous. Either 16 euros per person for a buffet, or 8 euros per person for a continental breakfast that consisted of non-fresh juice, coffee sitting around in a big thermos, and rolls. We actually left early so that we could go eat breakfast at the airport before our flight.

However, I did think the staff were friendly, they give a free welcome juice or punch, and you can print things (like airplane tickets) for free, which was greatly appreciated. They also have free wifi that worked reasonably well. Overall, it just didn't seem like it was worth the price.

Dear Client,

Thank you for the time that you took to give us a feedback on your stay.
We, for sure, take into account your commentaries.
However, if you have had asked a duty manager during your stay, it would have been possible for us to make changes in order to resolve your problems and make you more satisfied of your stay. Our aim is that our clients can have a nice and peaceful stay in our hotel, and we feel bad for you that you left not mostly satisfied.
It would have been interesting to know what you thought was missing in our breakfast buffet, as we can also still improve our buffet to satisfy even more clients. We actually made a satisfaction investigation and the result was 92% of satisfied clients.
We can always improve as i said to you.
Regarding the bad cigarette smell in your room, in few weeks, our hotel will be a completely non-smoking one.
We, however, take into consideration your commentaries, and hope that you will be satisfied in further trips.
Kind regards,

We stayed here for 2 nights during our honeymoon in Feb. The rooms are beautiful and breakfast is a treat. The view from the pool is gorgeous overlooking the town. I would definitely go back there if I have the chance. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is also good.
