“Home away from home”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

I stayed at the Garni du Centre at least half a dozen times over the past 2 years and I highly recommend it. Although within a short walking distance from the city centre, the hotel is a haven of peace and quietness with an immaculately maintained garden and swimming pool.
The rooms are spacious, with a comfortable bed and simple but effective bathroom. Each room has its private balcony or terrace overlooking the garden.
The breakfast offers all one can wish for, freshly pressed juices, hot croissants, variety of breads, cheeses and cold cuts, or omelette to be eaten on the terrace.
For those wishing to relax or work in the garden, there is a furnished pavilion at the back of the garden, ideal for a quiet read, work (there are power sockets and wifi) or meeting.
I found hotel staff extremely helpful, friendly and ensuring an impeccable maintenance of the premises.
There are many restaurants and bars close by, but if needed the hotel will also prepare lunch or dinner for its guests (order in advance).
Hotels in Kigali are not cheap and I consider the Garni du Centre as good value for money. The only negative point is that it was not possible to pay with a credit card.
I have tried a few other hotels in Kigali, but the Garni is definitely my favourite.

I've stayed at Garni 12+ times in 2010-2012 and it's a very informal, homey feeling. Everything is expensive in Kigali, but it's hard to get such a nice place to stay, so near the centre. Free wifi, cute breakfast provided. Only 11 total rooms (8 normal-sized and 3 larger rooms, 1 being a suite sort of thing), nice small swimming pool, and very friendly owners.

Room Tip: two larger (new) rooms don't have mosquito nets yet.

I agree with other reviewers that this hotel is pricey and that all hotels in Kigali is pricey.
However, this is a real home away from home.
Clean rooms, well furnished, beautiful garden and balcony, quite inspite of its central location.
Breakfast is very good.
Regarding the unfriendliness of the owner: I believe, one should consider the trauma of anybody who had been in Rwanda during the genocide. Everybody is affected.
We cannot judge Rwandans(Staff and Cleaners) too by their facial expression. In comparison to other Africans, they suffered a lot and it shows on their faces.
They might not be unfriendly but SAD! Traumatized.
In order to understand them, one should visit at least one of the museums, for ex,. the Genocide Memorial Museum.

I agree with other reviewers that this inn is clean, attractive, and well-located, with a good continental breakfast. It's also quite expensive, and for this amount of money I expected more of a sense of hospitality. I did not find the owner friendly or especially helpful, and on several occasions his treatment of staff was very unpleasant to see/hear. To me the place does not have a hospitable feel. I like privacy and don't need to have the staff or owner chatting me up all the time, but I like to feel welcomed, and that the owner is willing to do more than the bare minimum to help guests.

Quiet little hotel with lovely garden and comfortable rooms. A bit pricey but then everywhere in Rwanda seems to be. Delicious breakfasts, especially the croissants!

We have stayed two nights in this small hotel and have enjoyed.
Room was comfortable. Upstairs room seem to provide a little less value than downstairs room (warmer & a little traffic noise).
Free wifi was very useful to us, but speed varied throughout the day (not hotel's fault).
We loved the swimming pool and the garden full of birds surrounding it!
The Swiss owner was very responsive, very helpfull and flexible to our needs. Our experience with the rest of the staff was mixed: most were helpfull, but a few were rather incompetent. Special thanks to the helpfull cleaning ladies!
Breakfast is great with freshly baked croissants etc.
Another plus of the hotel is its location, a very well equipped shopping mall is just a walking distance away.
Although it is a rather expensive hotel/B&B, we would return for sure.
