“Clean Rooms & Friendly Service”
Reviewed 16 July 2013 via mobile

The staff here is extremely nice and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and clean for the most part. The road and the stadium across the road are very loud at night, but aside from the noise issue, there were very few complaints. The pool area is very pretty and relaxing with a thatched bar area. The food available at the restaurant is varied and delicious. The wi-fi is a great amenity.

Worst experience so far in East Africa. My wife and I decided to stay at this hotel based on some of the reviews here. After one restless night in this hotel we suspect those reviews were written by the director of the hotel (or the owner).
It is located by one very busy road in Kigali, in front of the stadium. In match days it is absolutely impossible to sleep or rest. This road is a well-known area of prostitution and cheap night clubs so the two nights we spent there we had the opportunity to follow in detail the discussions (sometimes really loud) between the cheap prostitutes and their clients. And the very loud cars passing by with shouting drunks, etc.
The rooms were filthy, to say the least. Hot water was only available at certain hours of the day and only in the shower, which was really moldy and dirty, and had not curtains, so every time we took a shower we had to dry up the whole bathroom. There was no toilet seat, hardly any light (one of the lamps was not working, the other had a very dim light).
The bed had the cheapest mattress ever, with bedsheets as thin as hair.
When we very politely asked for a room change we encountered an incredibly rude and arrogant attitude from the young receptionists, who queried us endlessly about the reasons for the change and ultimately refused arguing that all rooms were the same and that they had recently been renovated.
For the first time in over 5 years and after more than 20 different countries visited in that period we decided to move out to a different hotel, where we found more comfort and peace.

I traveled with a colleague to attend an EAC Conference, which was at the same venue. I stayed at the hotel between 7th and 13th August 2011. Whereas the conference facilities seemed suited for smaller numbers, the hotel has excellent customer service, quiet location, secure and affordable. Rooms are clean and great outdoor entertainment, and uninterrupted internet in the rooms

I spent three nights at this hotel...and one of the nights was one of the most difficult for me in Kigali. Yes, its close to the airport....and yes it has excellent people who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable, and yes it has free internet and a good breakfast. But all when we stay in a hotel, especially when we are only there to sleep, all we need is a good nights sleep. And this hotel does not have it. Its not only close to one of the busiest roads, its also close to one of the busiest bars and red light sections of Kigali. Put these three together and you see why I am not amused at the beautiful swimming pool, nor am I taken in by their ever smiling workers. My only warning to you is this....if you must go to this hotel...take the rooms on the side facing the swimming pool...its less noisy. Do not take the ground floor. And there is not much to keep you during the day...so use it as a stop over. Its fairly cheap (about USD 100) so its good for those who are on budget..considering that hotels are expensive in Kigali. But be ready to be woken up by sounds of wailing women as the police try to get them out of the streets late at night!

Room Tip: For the sake of your sanity at night, take rooms facing the swimming pool

recommended by RHCA and everything was beyond expectation, from the VIP rooms, oriental cuisine, grill restaurant, breakfast was amazing, staff are extremely motivated and top notch management!

Room Tip: pool facing rooms have the best ambiance

I stayed for four nights in the Sportsview Hotel during my stay in Kigali. It was a business trip so my three colleagues from the UK together with several colleagues from Kigali, Kisumu and Kampala held our meetings using the conference room facilities in addition to staying in the hotel.

My room was reasonably spacious with a small balcony, extremely clean and there was even a welcoming bowl of fresh fruit upon arrival. Shampoo, towels and everything you would expect in a mid-level hotel were provided in my room, including a mosquitto net. The staff were very polite and friendly and all spoke excellent English with the exception of my room cleaner who only spoke French. The meals provided were good, being international cuisine, with a few African influences, like the savoury banana dishes or goat meat. The outdoor bar area by the pool was lovely and although I didn't get time to use the pool, it was popular, including with the occasional Kigali-based expat and a few locals. The hotel provided a mini-bus to pick our group up and take us back to the airport. There was free internet but the connection was very slow.

The hotel was "recommended" by the public institution we visited. The receptionist was rude, possibly because she instisted speaking English, of which she had a poor command. The room was dirty, the sheets had stains, rubbish of the previous guest was is the drawers, no water pressure, no soap, no airconditioning - which would not be a problem, if windows could be opended, but there are no insect screens. The sockets did not work, throwing sparks. Handrails are loose, which is really dangerous, you trip on the stairs as hight are irregular. At breakfast, there was no butter or margerine, the rolls were two days old, the rest of the selection very poor indeed, no toast. At the bar you get a selection of music which is unnerving (not that I don't like African music), sometimes blasting at full. The extra charge for payment by credit cards is 10%, but don't worry, the machines do not work. When you are thus forced to pay chash, the offered exchange rate is just a rip-off. The hotel taxi taking you to the airport has worn tyres.
I have possibly stayed in 1000 hotels of all categories in more than 50 countries, some of them poorer than Rwanda, but this miserable place ranks lowest by far. There are other hotels in Kigali which are much better and not necessarily much more expensive.
