“Functional place to sleep and work”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

There's nothing fancy about the hotel, but the views are great, the internet works (most of the time) and the price is fair for Kigali. The location is ideal (10 mins from the airport and 10 mins from the city centre). I found the food a bit uninspiring so ate most of the time at the excellent Italian restaurant 1 up the road. I didn't visit the auberge, so can't compare it with the hotel, but the hotel is modern, functional and not exactly charming, but I found it a good and efficient place to stay and work.

Just spent a week in the hotel (didn't see the Auberge guest house, down the road) and definitely recommend it. $90 per night for a spotless, double room with new bed, desk, easy chair, large balcony, a good-sized bathroom and wi-fi. The staff are without exception friendly, helpful and attentive (I think some may be hospitality trainees but I don't know) making it a real pleasure to stay there. The restaurant serves a great buffet breakfast and prix fixe dinner.

Ask for a room looking out over the back - better view, out over the hills of Kigali, and a bit quieter, though it's never completely quiet.

Downtown Kigali is about 10 minutes away, the Genocide Memorial about 20, the airport about 10 in the other direction.

Great value, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Good views looking out the back of the hotel.

The Beausejour actually consists of a hotel and an "auberge" (guest house) which is located 500 m up on the same street. I have stayed multiple times at both and strongly recommend the guest house.

The guest house consists of low, classic buildings nicely spread over a lush garden; each room has its own porch. Staying here for about $45 to $60 (some negotiation possible) gets you a regular breakfast, a nice room, a running (even warm!) shower and internet. Musquito net in all rooms.

The hotel is a high, modern building, consisting of more spacious and expensive rooms ($90 upwards) with a great balcony view and a more fancy breakfast (buffet). The rooms are more fancy, but the showers actually work less than the guesthouse, as in the hotel, they turn off the water pump regularly to save money. The one advantage of the hotel, for business purposes, is that they have space and facilities to host workshops/meetings. The hotel is more anonymous.

For the lunch buffet, which is RF7000 ($15), it is worth it to walk ten minutes up to the roundabout where a variety of restaurants offers pretty much the same for RF2000 ($5).

The staff is generally nice but they refused a colleague of mine coming up to my room/balcony to work during the morning, as they suspected the woman to be a prostitute--this was highly insulting for her and embarrasing for me.

Therefore, in sum, the choice is easy: guesthouse, rather than hotel. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Tip: take the backside of both hotels as they are removed from the street. In the hotels, higher flo...

Recently stayed for a week on business trip and pleasantly surprised by almost everything given the pre-conceptions I had prior to my arrival. Staff attentive, polite and easy going. Lunchtime buffet well worth the money and local beer not bad at all. Room was spacious, clean and with enormous mosquito nets (not actually needed!). Probably the only place to stay in Kigali if you want value for money. Only downside was that they only take Visa and not Mastercard which was a bit irritating as I had to carry cash with me to pay for the room. Not the hotels fault though as this is typical throughout Rwanda.

Room Tip: If you're on business doesn't really matter as you'll probably be out all day. If a tou...

I was at the Beausejour for ten days/ nights. The food was excellent - Chef Paul (Belgian) did a wonderful job with local foods. The staff was very attentive and the rooms were sparkling clean. Overall a wonderful place to stay. Laundry service was wonderful and not expensive. The views from the dining room and the room balconies was spectacular.

Downsides - the internet was spotty (but was improving) and the television was limited to CNN, BBC and French TV.

Room Tip: Instead of calling for a taxi - the desk clerks use a local taxit/ guide and he is wonderful. Not ex...

I went to Beausejour Hotel to get a room for a few nights but the single room was 90 US dollars whereas a double room was 120 US dollars. So instead of staying there I opted for BEAUSEJOU GUESTROOMS, which are located about 200 meters towards airport on the same side of the road. Per room cost ranges from 40 to 50 Dollars and if you are a couple you have to pay 5 dollars additional. Very nice botanical guetrooms, having clean and spacious rooms, wifi with good speed, efficient staff and a good breakfast. On Television you find only African Channels (No dish TV).
If you dont want to spend more than 50 Dollars or even 40 dollars, this is the best option for you.

This little hotel offered a very clean and comfortable place to stay. Reasonably priced it also included breakfast. The staff were friendly and efficient.
The room are well equipped, spacious and has A/C units. You could always sit outside on your individual balcony watching the sun set.
Bear in mind though that Mosquitoes with Malaria are on the prowl at dawn and dusk so make sure you are covered and prepared.
The hotel is situated outside the heart of the city not far away from the Parliament. It is nonetheless very well located. There are several excellent restaurant within walking distance if you feel the need to explore.
Unlike many East and West African countries, Kigali and Rwanda in general has become one of the safest countries where Western tourists (including women on their own) can move around and about without the fear of being mugged, or hassled by street kids and vendors. BUT there is no need to tempt the devil either by not following basic safety precautions.
Access to internet is also available.
The down side is that it is situated close to a major arterial route from the City to the Airport.
So you can always request a room facing away from the street.
There is parking available but because it is co-sharing with some business on the ground floor, it is rather limited.
There is no swimming pool, or garden around, but you can easily enjoy sitting at the terrace on the roof top sipping a few alcoholic drinks or fresh fruit cocktails.

Overall, a very pleasant experience and certainly recommended.
