One of very few artist-run centres in Rwanda, this lively studio-gallery offers a unique and joyous experience. Open to all levels of knowledge and understanding about art, you can wander through the gallery then go and talk with the artists behind the work. I had the wonderful opportunity of purchasing a beautiful painting by a young artist, the first he has ever sold! Supporting local artists is the best way to leave a mark as you travel. This welcoming environment is a must see in Kigali.

“So much to chose from!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

It was amazing to walk in and see all that Ivuka Arts had to offer. My family and I went in looking for a piece of Rwandan art to take home and we ended up spending so much time there just touring the grounds, looking through all of the different styles, and browsing the crafts and jewelry. There were young artists on location working through their pieces and you could walk by and see the work coming to life! They also work with underprivileged youth and teach painting classes which makes you feel great about spending your money at a place so integrated into the community.

I highly recommend this as a must see in Kigali, especially for souvenirs/gifts. We walked in looking for one painting and came out with 4! They were very reasonably priced and the atmosphere isn't one that makes you feel pressured to purchase or decide right away. We went through stacks and stacks of artwork to find the exact pieces we wanted and even took over part of the gallery to lay them out next to each other. Charles helped us talk though what we were looking for and provided a knowledgeable stress free environment. He was very friendly and really made us feel at home in the art center.

Just a must visit while in Kigali. The culture, the vibe, the art and friendly staff, you won't be disappointed!

“Amazing place!”

I was with a small volunteer group in Kigali, and they had heard of Ivuka by word of mouth. It's not just an art gallery, but an experience! From the moment you walk in the gate and see the beautiful painted walkway, you feel like Willy Wonka in Rwanda! Art, sculpture and creation everywhere. We came back a second time, and I bought a beautiful little abstract piece that goes perfectly in my place. Charles and the other guys there are so welcoming and charming, too. Certainly a magical, special place, and one of Kigali's best kept secrets... but not for long! ;-)

“Rwanda artists at work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2013 via mobile

Ivuka is not only and art gallery, but also the atelier. Some of the artists were working when we visited. Ivuka has a wide variety of paintings and in different styles (a lot of abstract). We bought two paintings and are very happy. The only negative is that the place is hard to find and the roads are awful.
