Clean and great smell of bakery. The sandwiches were excellent and it is a respite in the busyness of Rwanda.....service up to par . After a long day of touring found it to be a wonderful, peaceful lunch place .

I have a love/hate relationship with Brioche. The food is quite good, but the service is so disorganized that I usually leave quite frustrated. I have made the mistake of thinking I could run over to Brioche for a quick lunch, and then 40 minutes later I am still waiting for the sandwich I ordered. I have considered calling ahead, but then I overheard a staff member taking a phone order for one sandwich and telling the person it would be an hour, so that doesn't seem to be much more efficient.

I think that part of the problem is that they don't have a clear system for serving people, so I often spend way too much time standing at the counter waiting to place my order and pay. It is maddening that there might only be one person ahead of you, but it can take 15 minutes to buy a loaf of bread.

All of the food I have had from Brioche is good; the chocolate muffins are excellent, and the whole grain bread was a welcome addition to Kigali. The prices are much higher than anything else around though, and it can be rather jarring to realize that you just paid $10 for a baguette and a muffin.

Now that Brood, a dutch bakery chain located in the new Sawa City supermarket has opened, I no go there for bread and croissants since they are better, faster, cheaper and the bread always seems to be hot out of the oven. I stick with Brioche for the occasional cake or tart. I go for sandwiches a few times a month thinking that the service must have improved but am usually disappointed.

I was looking for a place to buy my husbands birthday cake and came across this Bakery in Kigali. I decided to try it. I was surprised when I went that they only have mouse based cakes and only 1 sponge based cake with is dark chocolate. Nonetheless I went ahead and ordered it. I was supposed to have collected it the following day at 4pm. I got there at 3.45 pm and was told I had come too early so I waited. While we waited, my daughter had a tiny chocolate glazed doughnut sprinkled with nuts and I bought apricot and chocolate muffins to sample them. At 4pm I was told another 20 minutes - apparently according to one of the staff there, electricity had gone and so they were not able to make it on time. However when she went into the kitchen to check on the cake, I asked another staff member and she told me they had not had any electricity problem. This sent a red flag up for me. Are they just bad with service and cannot make anything on time? Did electricity really delay the cake? I guess I will never know. I went back at 5pm to collect the cake and when I opened the box, the cake was square (I expected a round cake as that is the picture they had shown me when showing the cakes available), crooked and off placed on the square cake board. The cake board used was exactly the same size as the cake and since it was not placed nicely on the board, part of the cake was on the cake box meaning when I presented it to my husband, I had to keep it in the box as I don't have a square plate and did not want the part of the cake off the cake board on the table directly. Having said that the cake was good enough - moist but not enough cake sponge and too much chocolate ganache/icing on the top. It has to be said that the cake was very small and in places like Nairobi (where I have just visited and depending on the bakery), a cake that costs that much would be double or triple the size. The muffins tasted okay although the texture was more sponge like similarly to the cake and did not in anyway resemble muffins. By the next day, the muffins had become soggy. Like the cake, the muffins and doughnuts were extremely small. Overall this place is very expensive and portions too small. They seem to have a good bread selection although I didnt try any but it seems like their cakes were an after thought. The chocolate cake was Rf 30,000, Muffins Rf 2,500 each and doughnut Rf 700
