I stayed here for 5 weeks, and it is very comfortable. Rooms are big and bright. I'd room facing the street but it was very peaceful. One of the best thing is it's location. Staff is quite friendly, they speak English and ready to help anytime. I read some review about poor cleanliness, i did not agree with that, the hotel is quite neat and clean and it is 100% value for the money we spend here. I just adivsed them to include fresh fruits in the breakfast.

Room Tip: All rooms are specious, choose any one but room facing towards the street with a gallery is the best...

We booked a room online after reading the reviews. We could only conclude that not all the reviews are genuine. Any refurbishment must have been done in the 90s (or before). The rooms are dated (we managed to look inside any rooms as they were being 'cleaned'). We could not think of a more basic room/bathroom. The bed was filthy and one of the pillows had a mysterious white stain! The staff were pleasant and tried to be helpful but the rooms are what they are. After seeing the state of the bed we decided to sleep on top of the bedding rather than risk the hidden delights of what might be between the sheets. The air conditioning is a loud box in the wall. The internet service is not bad but was intermittent. There are no safes in the room but there is a fridge. The shower is incredibly weak and I did not feel clean after. We had booked 2 nights but left after one. I would not recommend it. There are cheaper but better hotels in Dakar. The hotel brazzerade for example has more negative reviews but is better. We moved there after the first night.

Just back from 2 weeks in Senegal and staying in atleast 5 different hotels. The Baraka is very comfortable, with big bright rooms. Its location is terrific. A 1 minute walk to the Mayors Office, 2 mins to Independance place and a nice 5 minute walk to the Institut Francais and Le Bidew!

The breakfast at 3500cfa is a letdown and definitely an area for improvement. The lobby area and reception desk need to be renovated to match the rooms.

Worth the money!

Clean, efficient and spacious room. HUGE bathroom with a hot water shower (great water pressure). Great location with lots of places to eat nearby. Lovely courtyard breakfast area. Friendly staff, some of whom spoke English very well. I had the room facing the street but it was quiet.

PROs: Strong Wifi connection. Very nicely renovated room that was clean and modern. The reviews that say otherwise are probably outdated. I was just there Nov 2013 and the place is renovated and very nice. Large bathroom. Balcony. Good location, within walking distance to Sandanga market and many other sites. Concierge SUPER nice and helpful. Bar & restaurant downstairs. Elevator! No climbing 5 flights of stairs with luggage.

CONs: Non - Met all of my needs, would definitely stay again!

One thing you'll realized about Dakar very quickly is that hotels are expensive and you often don't get what you pay for. Hotel Al Baraka is one of the rare finds where price reflects what you will get. Seriously, try to find a decent hotel DOWNTOWN for the prices Baraka offers. It's no frills, but you'll get a large room that's clean and comfortable right downtown.

It is recently remodeled, so some of the older reviews describing how the dirty the rooms to be dirty no longer apply. The new managers changed all the decor and deep cleaned the whole place. The wifi works really well. The rooms are very large, especially the bathrooms. If you get a street-facing room, you'll also get a large balcony, but if you want something quieter, go for a room on the other side. Apparently it used to be an apartment building, so the spacious layout reflects the former arrangement.

It's near Rue Pompidou and just down the road from Chez Farid, one of the best Lebanese restaurants in town.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the street for a quieter evening, but you'll miss out on a spacious balcony...

No frills but reasonable value for the money. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly and the location is great for walking around the central city areas with plenty of eating places near by. Wi fi worked which is always a bonus.
