“Great Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

The hotel is an oasis in the city. It is a boutique hotel whose owners live on site. It is a small hotel with a patio, garden and pool in the back. The patio was a great place to spend time at night. The rooms and bathrooms are large and kept very clean. Each bed has a mosquito net. They have trained the staff to provide quality service and great food. The hotel serves a wonderful breakfast of fresh bread, jams, yogurt and fresh fruit. In addition, you can ask for omelets, crepes or ham/cheese. Lunch and dinner are available, but you must ask for them in advance. They offer a set menu that changes every day. Bar/coffee service is available all day.

The hotel is one block from the beach. The restaurant, Le Ngor, is on the beach and a great place to have a drink and watch sunset. The American store, a small store with imported American food, is a five minute walk away and Point des Almadies is ten minutes away, which has a couple of good restaurants.

If you are looking for a smaller, quieter hotel away from the bustle of larger hotels, you should chose La Residence.

Room Tip: There is building under construction across the street from the hotel. Ask for a room away from the...

arrived at this hotel last week. the location is in a quiet suburb of dakar one block from the ocean. it is a boutique -hotel bed and breakfast type but they do serve lunch and dinner. it is simply lovely!!. the room was quite large as we were three people. a/c is great and so is the hot water in the shower. the owners- are charming and the staff is delightful. everyone is so friendly. the breakfast(which was included for us) was so delicious- they make their own yogurt and it is served with fruit and jams. you can also get any type of egg or omelte along with ham and cheese slices.the pool is also beautiful but to chilly to swim. at this time of year, dakar has a nice breeze in the morning and nite , then is hot during the day.
the hotel is a block away from some beach restaurants- chez fatu and restaurant ngor- both right on the beach and you dine while listening to crashing waves.
if you go to dakar- avoid the noise and hustle and bustel and stay here. but you should tip the staff- (only a small amount if anything in the currency of cfa not euro's.

Room Tip: we needed a large room so we had the new york suite

This accomodation is located right in a construction area, and so will it be at least whole 2014.
If you are looking for a calm stay, choose another place to stay.

The positive is the nice garden with a swimming pool (unheated).
There are some good restaurants right on the waterfront, close to the hotel. Otherwise is the location of the hotel right in nowhere. And for the room-prices you can get much more in other places.

Dear Mr. Stephan,

Thank you for your comments. For us the only way to improve is to take all our customers experience into account.
The construction in front of the hotel is now over, what brought back the peace and quietness that pupils are looking for.
We hope to welcome you again whenever your travels bring you back to Dakar.

I stayed here literally because I was scared to death after reading the reviews of the nearby "Hotel des Almadies" where I had to be for a 3-day conference. I was pleasantly surprised by this place: everything was clean, rooms were very very nice, and internet worked incredibly well (contrary to what I had imagined when traveling to Senegal). The food was very good and people were very kind.
Since I do not speak French, there was a bit of trouble trying to explain what I wanted to the kitchen staff, but the people in the front desk were very fluent in English and useful.
One thing I didn't like was that this hotel is not really "in" Dakar but in Almadies that is geographically distant from the city itself. I would have preferred to stay in the city itself (around 30 min away) but I had to participate in a conference in that same area.

I stayed at La Residence for 3 nights in December and definitely recommend it. The hotel is a very short walk from the Almadies restaurants and beaches, which is also especially good for the airport. (5-10 minute cab ride to their airport.) Le N'gor restaurant (see review on tripadvisor) is just steps away. The hotel itself is modern and comfortable. It has a wonderful pool which is large enough for laps and a peaceful and green courtyard with plenty of places to lounge around. There is a very sunny patio breakfast area/bar which is quite nice. Breakfast itself is quite good: eggs, bread, croissants. Rooms are modern and simply appointed and the beds comfortable. For the price, a little over $100 per night, it is quite a good deal. Service is very good. They arranged airport pick-up and drop-off flawlessly.

Room Tip: Away from the kitchen (noisy in the morning)

La Residence came recommended by my fellow UNICEF Colleagues, and I cannot thank them enough. The staff are incredibly accommodating, and the food is unbelievably delicious. The rooms are clean, spacious, comfortable and inviting. The grounds are beautiful, quaint, with garden, fountains and a beautiful pool. Daniele was an incredible host who always accommodated my even if I needed to leave my luggage safely for a few days. Highly recommended, these are good people who genuinely care about customer service and will take great care of you!!! They even prepared me a beautiful Birthday cake and the entire staff sang me Joyeux Anniversaire ;)

Room Tip: Garden room #3 or the Marrekeche Room ;)
