“Nice quiet and beautiful setting”

My first time in Dakar and I landed perhaps one of the best places in town.

Although Hotel Sokhamon is not exactly near the new commercial area of Dakar it’s close enough by taxi ±10 mins. The hotel is in a residential area and on the sea cliffs overlooking the sea.

The hotel has some classic furniture and it looks like entering a surreal world carved in rocks.

The rooms are simple, but have all the necessary for a comfortable stay. A/C, good internet, and satellite TV. I had a room overlooking the sea (at additional cost), but it’s all well worth it.

The only thing that should be in the rooms is a coffee and tea makers.

Restaurant menu is good, with a selection of local cuisine, and very nice fresh fish daily.

Breakfast has a spread for all tastes and can be taken outside in the verandah overlooking the sea.

I would recommend this hotel, be it a little quirky, but nice stay and very affordable.

Room Tip: Seaview are superb, pay a little bit extra, well worth it!

I spent a month at Sokhamon and thoroughly enjoyed it. The place is a work of art, designed by the owner herself. Really interesting. You can dine and have drinks with a great ocean view. It is located right next to downtown but is quiet and peaceful. There are yoga classes a couple of nights a week and also salsa classes on Tuesday. Friendly staff and good food. I definitely recommend it.

My husband and myself had a very good experience at the hotel. The staff was very friendly and although the whole hotel is very particular we found it interesting. The rooms are fine and the sea view is superb. The food had too little choices but was good and well served. Breakfast has a good variety of foods. We would recommend it for sure.

Dining on the terrace, with the wind blowing in our hair, is quite a delight after a day of walking in heat and humidity. Food is adequate but the chocolate cream is amazing, so rich and dark and tasty. Staff is eager to assist. This morning they obtained a guide for us who took us around the city and Gorey Island. This guide made sure that i did not overpay for trinkets. The hotel also arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport when we arrived. I recommend that be done to be protected from scalpers and ride in a safer car.

I stayed at the Sokhamon for slightly over a month on business in Dakar, along with a few colleagues. While at first I found the hotel a bit weird ('quirky' gone wrong), the place really did grow on me. If you're looking for something that is entirely NOT a typical western business hotel (e.g., Radisson Blu), this is the place for you. While overall I'd put the level of the rooms at European/North American 3-star, they were nonetheless pretty comfortable, spacious and reasonably well-equipped. For longer stayers, hanging space is very limited, and like most African hotels clothes hangers are scarce, but there was a huge dresser with plenty of space for folded items. My room (302) was long and narrow (all the upper floor rooms seem to be of different layouts and designs), and after sunset lighting became a annoyance -- the few lamps were far too weak to read by, even sitting below them.

In terms of physical infrastructure though, it's the hotel's public spaces that impress. The entire pool/bar area is excellent, although a bit limited in space to sunbathe (good thing it's rarely very crowded). There's a good-sized saltwater pool and jaccuzi overlooking the sea, and all in close proximity to the excellent outside bar (which also serves food).

But the staff are what take the Sokhamon from average to great in my opinion. One of the best, most professional, friendliest and most accommodating staffs I've seen at any hotel in years. I never once heard "we can't" but only "let us work on that" or "give me an hour", and in every case they came through on whatever was needed. And always very pleasant with guests.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper few levels are designed and decorated in a more quirky style that may not sui...

With our family we stayed 3 nights and we were very happy here. We had spacious clean rooms with magnificent ocean view and panorama on Island Madeleine... The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was more than correct! The panoramic open bar area is a pleasant place to drink the apero late afternoon before dinner. The magnificent sunset you see there is for free! The swimming pool ( lining the Ocean) gives you the impression to have a swim in the Ocean. Take time to discover the hotel in-and outside... Carved texts in walls invite to reflect... Instruments invite to play music... all sort of seats made in authentic local materials invite to sit down and relax to listen to the births singing in the huge hall... it's not a common hotel, it's a 'dream'place! - Family Verlinden-Belgium

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean view

Sokhamon means "if you only knew" from the outside it might look strange, but once you go down al the stairs and you see the magnificent view, you understand why it's called Sokhamon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple but very fresh with warm croissants and fresh fruits and good coffee.
The rooms were not very special, but space enough, a nice bed, and warm water. Not a lot of people stayed in the hotel when I was there, but people from around came by for a drink, because of the cocktail menu, but mostly because of the magnificent view! I would recommend this hotel, to any one. They also had yoga classes. Unfortunately I did not have time to join a class.
