“Nice little museum”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Keeping in mind the limited resources available in Freetown, this is a nice stop on your tour of Freetown. Small but has interesting artifact -the front room is filled with 'secret society' costumes (which really are 'secret' so you can't take pictures in there) as well as a blow up of the recently located Bai Bureh photo. There is also a nice display on Bunce Island on the second floor and its connections to the SC/GA Gullahs.

“Fantastic artifacts old and new, lovely tour”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

Located right downtown near City Hall and the Judiciary, this small museum houses a treasure trove of Sierra Leonian history and has revolving art exhibits as well. A small entry fee (maybe Le 20,000 or around $4.50) gets you a tour by a very knowledgeable guide. Everything from warrior masks to photos of the British abdication of the country to artifacts of female circumcision (yes, that is real).

“A bit of history”
Reviewed 7 June 2013

This is a very small museum, but had a few nice exhibits. While we were there the costumes of the secret tribes were on display and very impressive, we were not allowed to take photos as they are secret... The museum gives you an informative timeline on the history of the slaves.

“Little to show, but nice staff”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

The museum seems to own little in the way of traditional Sierra Leone art, in spite of the fact that the country produced superb Bundu masks, "minsereh" statues, and nomoli and other stone carvings. Presumably, it has really no recovered from the civil war. On the other hand, the staff members are delightful and clearly welcome visitors. Worth a quick stop, if you have an interest in traditional Salone art, even though there's little there.
