Stayed three nights, two in a tent and one in a twin room. Tent area was away from the main building and relatively quiet, the outside bar closes at a reasonable time. Twin room was spacious and clean. Shared bathrooms had mosquitos which made taking a shower hazardous. Food was reasonable comfort food but nothing special.

Dear 130togo

Glad you appreciated the place and who we are trying to appeal to! Sorry about the mosquitoes in the public bathrooms - we might try putting the doors on an automatic close but I'm not totally convinced it will help as I think that's the hazard of being in our beautiful location next to Lake Victoria and all it's papyrus below our plot (quite rightly protected by National Environment Management Authority).

Hope to see you back here sometime all the same!
All the best
Debbie

The photo does not do the place justice, it is really a backpackers lodge, no hot water morning or night, not the best place to be on your first night in Uganda. Food very basic and Pizza took ages to arrive.

Dear Hockeytart

You got it - we are indeed a backpackers lodge! And actually we are quite proud of it...we believe we provide great value for money for backpackers and budget independent travellers and families, with prices ranging from just US$7 for camping to US$45 for 2 people for a lovely ensuite room. I am really sorry we were obviously not the market you were looking for but I don't believe we have misled anyone in any of our marketing materials or website. For the purposes of trip advisor I think you are supposed to grade a place on how they perform within their market segment (and price) rather than merely by which they belong to?

I do however really apologise for the lack of hot water during your stay. You have not posted when you stayed with us but I suspect it was in early summer (June/July) when we had a disastrous lightning strike which blew up our electric heaters and we were reliant on solar power for a while before we could get it all fixed....I'm afraid the solar just couldn't keep up with demand from all those pesky backpackers at that time of year! Likewise there was a bit of a wait for pizzas... We are now changing the base recipe and increasing the temperature of the oven in an effort to be able to churn out 50+ a night a little quicker!

I am sorry you were so disappointed but hope you find something more suitable for you if you come back to Kampala

Best regards
Debbie

Out of lamp ala but close enough to get places. Been to Congo kenya and Uganda. Uganda is by far my favourite. Queen Elizabeth national park is amazing. Saw elephants lion leopard zebra buffalo giraffe and hippo. The hostel is the other side of Uganda but it has its own bat with decent food Nike special lager (mmmmmmm) and a pool

Dear John M

So great to hear you enjoyed Red Chilli and Uganda too! QE is great but next time you must go to Murchison too! Or maybe you did actually as there aren't any giraffes in QE? (Or Zebra come to think of it! Sounds like you have had a fabulous tour of all the parks here!)

All the best for more happy travelling

Being out of the citycentre I think this place is nice for a couple of days of relaxing (nice pool!). If you are staying longer I can imagine a place closer to the main attractions and restaurants is nicer. We stayed in a double room ensuite in the back of the building (with a small terrace near the volleyballnet). We had an other room the night before, but that wasn't that nice as this one :)
The food isn't that special, the bar is ok! Nice, friendly, interested and helpful staff at the frontdesk and the bar upstairs.

Kom je uit Nederland en zin in/toe aan goed brood? Check de Broodt-bakkerij die door de stad heen op verschillende plekken zit. Krentenbollen, zuurdesemrood, croissantjes..

Room Tip: Near the volleyball-area there are rooms with a small terrace downstairs, we really liked those!

Dear Szonjee

I agree - the double ensuites with veranda are definitely the nicest rooms in the place! These only suit couples however...the other ensuites have an extra bed in so suit 3 people or a couple wanting separate beds more.

Hope you managed to take advantage of our free shuttle to take you into the city centre...

Best regards
Debbie

I was there with a friend and really enjoyed it. It was the ideal place to keep going back to in between travels because its so comfortable. The hostel is huge with great facilities compared to anywhere else in uganda. I stayed at both the dorms and their tents and definitely preferred the tents. They are spacious ones in a quiet area and you get to wake up to a nice view. Most of the staff were wonderful. Francis at the reception and JJ at the bar were of great help to us the whole time whether with things related to our accommodation or anything else! The only drawback is that the hostel is a bit far from town but they have free shuttles running 3 times a day to town which we tried to use most of the time. Oh and they make great pizzas!

Room Tip: Their tents are spacious, in a quiet area, and you get to wake up to a nice view!

The biggest hostel I have ever been to. Accommodation ranges from camping to privates all inside a walled compound. Staff is very helpful and the food is quite good. Location is outside of town, but there is a free shuttle 3 times a day to and from a shopping center. Pool is clean and there are multiple bars, a rooftop terrace, and free wifi. Average dorms.

Dear InternationalNomad77

Thanks very much for the great feedback! Hopefully the dorms will be better than just average soon too as we are changing all the beds and bed linen too (cosy duvets!)

Kind regards

The Red Chilli is the perfect base for a Ugandan Holiday. Red Chilli has a very friendly feel. The staff are friendly and accommodating ( special mention for Francis and Margaret) the premises and grounds are big and roomy plus the food is good. The free shuttle into the centre of Kampala was very handy. I also took one of the Red Chilli tours to Murchison Falls and found this to be excellent value for money. My only complaint is that the bedding in the ensuite rooms could have been better, but then I look at the tariff and can't really complain. I'll be back

Dear Kevin H

Happy to hear you enjoyed the place...even happier to be able to tell you that we've just changed all the bedding in the ensuite rooms (and towels shortly to follow). We now have lovely, brand new, light, fluffy duvets with covers and matching pillow cases. They're great! Will pass on your compliments to Francis and Margaret - I know they'll really appreciate it, thank you!

Best regards
