We stayed here on two different occasions. The first time we were there, we stayed on the street-side. It was noisy- but not nearly as noisy as the second time we stayed and had to listen to BLARING music all. night. long. Really, it felt like we were up in the club trying to go to sleep!

It's really clean, reasonably priced, and located near the matatu parking lot- which makes it easy to get in and out of town... But wow, the noise is crazy. Also, the internet really only worked in the main dining area and was shut off at night, which was a bit of a pain as we were trying to plan for our trip and blog about what we had done...

I would stay here, but maybe best if you plan to go out... Streetside is best for a slightly lower noise level.

Room Tip: Street-side. Not to the back fo the hotel!

After three visits to the city in eleven years this is the best budget hotel I've found in the center of Kampala. If you are going to stay in the center you just can't beat the location on Kampala Ave. It is a 5 minute walk to the Post Office/ Post Bus station and the Old Taxi Stand, from which you can get minibuses/vans to other parts of Uganda, is a few minutes walk around the corner. You never have to use a taxi if you stay here and don't mind a little walking.

My room was comfortable with two beds, a good fan, a spacious bathroom with a wonderful hot shower. It was very clean and had been recently painted. My room was on the Kampala Ave. side of the hotel and had a very good view of the Avenue. The rooms are several stories above ground level and the hotel set back from the busy street so noise isn't too bad. I was there at the noisiest possible time, on a Saturday night after Uganda had won a big football game. There was a celebration in the park across the street and the constant blaring of car horns. I turned on the fan, put in my earplugs and slept like a baby.

The free breakfast was nice (eggs, tropical fruit, toast, tea) on a pleasant balcony and there is a popular restaurant on the second floor of the building.

The staff was helpful and let me leave my bag while I took a day trip to Jinja. As I was leaving my room I remembered that my boots had left the bathroom dirty. I went back and tipped the cleaning lady, who was already at work. The smile she gave me made my day.

Room Tip: I liked the view and breeze on the Kampala Ave side of the building. The noise wasn't too bad bu...

This hotel has a fantastic location. The rooms are large, clean and airy, and great value for money! Free breakfast consists of fresh fruit, omelette, toast and tea, and the free wi-fi is an excellent bonus! The staff are all lovely, the only downside to this hotel is the noise. Rooms at the back have loud music playing and the rooms at the front have traffic noise. However this certainly shouldn't deter you as this is a fantastic value for money hotel, just bring a pair of ear plugs!

Occupying a good location across from the square the hotel is clean, with good hot water and friendly staff. We especially appreciated the late breakfast that they were nice enough to make us. The only major downside is the traffic noise, but it is to be expected being right on Kampala Road.

This hotel is right in the centre of the city and you can walk upto Nakkumatt and Centenary Park within 20 to 25 minutes. The hotel Manager is an Indian who is very polite and cooperative. The worst thing about the hotel is its entrance; you have to walk through a narrow corridor and climb the suffocating stairs probably through some private flates. Try to get the room in front side (whose windows are opening towards the main road from where you climbed up) because rooms on the other side have a very restricted view through untidy junc yards. There is an Indian restaurant on the lower floor of the Hotel (not owned by this Hotel), where you can find good Indian and African food. The hotel has an Internet Cafe (but you have to pay for that) you can even get the printouts. Breakfast is okay. The rooms are reasonably clean with attached bathrooms (with hot water available). Overall the Hotel is okay as you are charged a very little amount (20 to 25 dollars for a double room)

I liked Hotel City Square enough to stay there twice, and I'd stay there again. I thought it was pretty good value for money. The staff were reasonably pleasant and helpful. My rooms were comfortable and clean, and everything was in good repair -- far too many African hotels let themselves go to seed and fall into disrepair, but it seems that Hotel City Square makes the effort to keep things up.

Its central location makes things convenient. Motorcycle taxis are always available right out front, and it's easy to get to the "taxi parks," one of which is within five minutes' walk. In the same building, there is a restaurant with cheap but decent food (they also provide room service) and an Internet cafe (overpriced but convenient).

Hotel City Square is a good place, and I'd definitely stay there again.
