Was excited to see that the once popular Bimbo Ice-cream Parlour had reopened at its original location. But my excitement died the moment I got there.
I chose to take a table at the upstairs balcony. There was something so off about the ambience. Could not place it on anything exactly, probably the furniture, I don't know.
The place was rather putrid and hot even though I counted no less than 4 AC's on the top level alone.
First I was taken aback by their prices. I thought that after all the new Bimbo was not the ordinary fast-food joint in Kampala and that probably its service compares with a restaurant in a good Kampala hotel.
The waitress seemed not to be sure if anything on the menu was available, admitting it was her first day at work. She had to go and check with the chef, not just once. She had no idea of any Schweppes products, even though these were reintroduced in Kampala more than a year ago, and Bimbo actually had them in stock.
The chicken and chips that I ordered took ages to arrive and it turned out to be fridge cold on one side and hot on another. Clearly, it had not been freshly prepared, and the microwave treatment was poorly done.
The amount of chips for the price was ridiculous.
During the meal, a hawker walked in selling DVDs, something very unusual for a restaurant of the type that Bimbo is supposed to be.
I did not consider eating their treadmark ice-cream, though.
Am not sure I will ever go back to this Bimbo, and cannot recommend anyone to this restaurant.
