A little gem. Okay, the rooms are basic, but clean, breakfast is good and the internet is surprisingly good. Staff are really friendly and helpful. You can pay so much more in Lusaka and get so much less. Thanks Nena!

A nice basic place to stay. The rooms are fine - nothing fancy but we just needed a place to sleep. The food was very good and the staff very pleasant. You can safely go for walks during the day. We were able to walk to the shopping area no problem. Not a bad place to stay.

Nena Guest house has increased the price, I paid 60 USD which for Lusaka is normal but it is not a steal anymore. I had tried to book via their internet side but never got an answer. Nena agreed that it would be better to take the booking form off the web page as it doesn't function. The guest rooms need refurbishment, they look tired. Bed sheets and towels were clean but there was dust on the furniture and in the bathroom. There is no light near the bed, only 1 switch at the door for the ceiling light. I had room no. 1 which has the disadvantage that it is near to the kitchen, staff is talking loudly, dishes are washed, all this producing unpleasant noise. Above the door to the room is a glass window/skylight and as the light in the floor is on throughout the night, the room is never completely dark. The mosquito nets above the beds were removed, possibly for washing or previous guests had taken them as a "souvenir". I found a small booklet with comments in the room, and one entry described exactly what I experienced, maybe nobody reads the comments? Advantage of room no. 1: Bathroom and toilet are separate rooms. I was woken up very early in the morning through noise caused by the Guinea fowls. I recommend to put them on the menu then they are at least for some use. They are not only noisy but produce a lot of dirt in the garden. There is a very popular bar in the premises and the food served in the restaurant is tasty, big portions. The English breakfast is freshly prepared and sufficient. There is wireless internet. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Cars can be parked inside the premises.

Room Tip: Avoid room no. 1

Nena Guest House is situated in Rhodes park, which is slightly away from the Lusaka city but those who want to goto Mulungushi Conference Centre, can very well stay here. The guest house serves good quality of food. The service is slightly slos but the dishes are made to order and you get good stuff to eat. Its like a good hangout for some Lusaka citizens who enjoy sitting in the bar watching some good soccer game with a beer.
They serve foods in the rooms and for those who visit them for a lunch or dinner, the food is served in the open areas around pool or a little away from the pool.
Teh quality of food serverd is good.
I stayed for 9 days and found the staff very friendly.
Rooms are slightly shabby however, it is compensated by the behaviour of the staff, cleanliness and more importantly the price as compated to other hotels in and around Lusaka,
Overll experience of staying with Nena Guest House was good.

We stayed at Nena's arriving in Lusaka; no problems; it's a basic and busy guesthouse in need of some sprucing up, but for the price, okay. Decent meals, noisy bar, and the room by the kitchen gets all the food aromas from the grills. But okay. However, on our return to Lusaka, we were told our pre-booked/pre-payed room was not available; the cook was attempting to run the entire guesthouse that night. Nena was apparently out of the country, the front desk staff was sick, so the cook did her best, as did our driver, to find us a place to stay. After an hour and 6 tries, we did find a decent guesthouse, which had a much larger room for the same price (which Nena's paid for, of course.) We decided that there are certainly other options in Lusaka, many run by Zambians, which were nicer, cleaner, and less chaotic. The taxi drivers actually WILL take you to a decent, safe hotel/hostel that might NOT be in a guide book!

This guest house is not able to manage reservations. I had made two reservations for different dates, they were confirmed by email and both times when I arrived there I was informed "we are fully booked". Not really nice after a long journey. The first time they brought me to a 'hotel' not to describe but the same price. The second time they brought me to a hostel without AC but same price too.

Nena's is really a restaurant and bar with rooms - there are only four but they are en-suite with aircon and satellite TV, and very comfortable if a little small. They represent fantastic value for money at K200,000 for a single; K250,000 for a double/twin. A cooked English breakfast is included. The restaurant serves some of the best food I had in Zambia - try the barbecued meats with which you can have chips or rice and salad - but are more traditional if you opt for nshima - then you also get a nice dark green leafy hot vegetable and a spicy sauce. The bar is one of the nicest (and cheapest) in Lusaka, and popular with locals. Tables are spread throughout the gardens where guinea fowl run about, and around the pleasant, clean swimming pool. Nena herself is Serbian but the staff is Zambian and very friendly. I liked it so much I returned when passing through Lusaka again. It is in a safe area, but only 20 minutes walk from the city centre, and is secure. Credit cards are taken for no extra charge.
