We are a family of five who recently stayed at Wayside. We choose to stay there as we were in Lusaka for a week and didn't want the impersonal service of a hotel. We definitely made the right choice in staying at Wayside. The hosts, Beverley and Pieter, are absolutely lovely and on our first night provided us with soup and samosas - they could tell how exhausted we were from our previous 10 days travelling around Zambia.
Nicholas, the chef, makes the most delicious breakfasts and is very friendly - we miss him! The rooms were spacious and clean with good working showers. Our daughters even had a lounge area with kitchen which came in very handy when we hosted a gathering for people we had been working with in Lusaka.
The gardens are an absolute delight, beautiful, possibly the BEST private gardens I have ever seen. We sat in the evenings under the gazebo and were given fire pits, or braziers, to keep us warm. We experienced the coldest winter days Lusaka had seen a quite a few years and it was definintely chilly to sit outside. Undeterred we say around the fire pits and caught up with old friends - Beverley was happy for us to entertain people we were working with during the day.
Wayside is guarded at the entrance and the guards make regular trips around the property which made us feel very safe. The location is good, about 1 minutes drive from Makeni Mall which has KFC, pizza, Pick n Pay supermarket, ATMs a plenty and about a 20 minute drive to the centre of town in heavy traffic.
We highly recommend staying at Wayside, and hope that one day we shall return.
On the ratings below (the tick box section) it is not a hotel it is a bed and breakfast - no restaurant on site, but fridges in the rooms to keep drinks and food and Beverley can arrange for BBQs if required or evening meals if booked in advance.
