We are a family of five who recently stayed at Wayside. We choose to stay there as we were in Lusaka for a week and didn't want the impersonal service of a hotel. We definitely made the right choice in staying at Wayside. The hosts, Beverley and Pieter, are absolutely lovely and on our first night provided us with soup and samosas - they could tell how exhausted we were from our previous 10 days travelling around Zambia.

Nicholas, the chef, makes the most delicious breakfasts and is very friendly - we miss him! The rooms were spacious and clean with good working showers. Our daughters even had a lounge area with kitchen which came in very handy when we hosted a gathering for people we had been working with in Lusaka.

The gardens are an absolute delight, beautiful, possibly the BEST private gardens I have ever seen. We sat in the evenings under the gazebo and were given fire pits, or braziers, to keep us warm. We experienced the coldest winter days Lusaka had seen a quite a few years and it was definintely chilly to sit outside. Undeterred we say around the fire pits and caught up with old friends - Beverley was happy for us to entertain people we were working with during the day.

Wayside is guarded at the entrance and the guards make regular trips around the property which made us feel very safe. The location is good, about 1 minutes drive from Makeni Mall which has KFC, pizza, Pick n Pay supermarket, ATMs a plenty and about a 20 minute drive to the centre of town in heavy traffic.

We highly recommend staying at Wayside, and hope that one day we shall return.

On the ratings below (the tick box section) it is not a hotel it is a bed and breakfast - no restaurant on site, but fridges in the rooms to keep drinks and food and Beverley can arrange for BBQs if required or evening meals if booked in advance.

Room Tip: We needed three rooms so stayed in the house block towards the rear of the property surrounded by ga...

The guesthouse is located outside Lusaka, but there is a driver who can bring you to the city centre. The guesthouse is in a good condition and owners are very helpful and nice. The rooms are quite big and there is a beautiful garden, the breakfast is good. The staff is also very friendly, but the swimming pool was cold. It's overall good value for money.

I just returned from my 3rd stay at the Wayside. I haven't been back since 2012, but it was exactly as I remembered it. The one thing that has changed is that you can now get wi-fi access in some of the rooms which is a change for the better. Beverley and Peter go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to help your stay in Lusaka go smoothly. The staff are as friendly and gracious as always and the rooms are always clean and fresh. Nicholas and Osward greet you with friendly smiles at breakfast and serve up some great coffee and food to start your day off right. The grounds continue to take your breath away with the incredible variety of plants and sitting in the shade, listening to the birds, perhaps reading a book is a great way to begin or end any day.

I stayed recently with friends for 2 nights at the start and end of our travels around Zambia at the Wayside Lodge. Beverley is wonderful at making the lodge a little oasis with stunning gardens that are her passion. The divine sweet smell of flowers as you sit in the garden with a cold beer is so relaxing. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the poolside is beautiful too. The place is really good value for money and mainly both Beverley and Pieter make you so welcome and are just lovely people. Breakfast is a treat as well but dinner is only by prior arrangement so if you need it make sure to organise this with them.

I stayed at Wayside twice in 2012 and took my wife back in 2013.It is an absolute haven of tranquility and peace away from the mayhem of Lusaka and the rigours of Zambezi canoeing.
Beverley and Peter could not do enough to make us comfortable and cater to our every needs and the magnificent breakfasts certainly set you up for the day.Ice cold beers in the room fridge and a slow wander through the "Secret Garden" certainly restore the equanimity.
No problem getting a taxi to a restaurant at night.

I would stay nowhere else in Lusaka.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the kitchen/dining room are best and closest to the gardens.

I stayed at Wayside with my mother twice and loved it. It's a very relaxing place in a crazy city. The rooms are very nice, the swimming pool very clean.
There is just one big problem and that is they don't serve dinner anymore. Since it is not in town and taxi's are quite expensive in Lusaka this is a bit of a hassle. It would be lovely if you could just have dinner over there. I understand the reasons they don't do it anymore, but it's very impractical for the guest staying there. I hope they are going to do something about this and it would be the perfect place to stay again.

This is really a nice place to stay during your visit to Lusaka. It is also close to a very comprehensive Shopping Mall. All arrangements can be made with the host - Airport pick-ups, etc. Comfortable and spacious rooms with all you require. Breakfast is also a real treat. No other meals available but you can ask them to order in from the local Pizza place or get a taxi to take you to one of the exciting eating-houses for a "local" experience.
All payments in Kwatchas.

Room Tip: It is a long way from the airport so allow so time to get there and back.
