Initially we booked two rooms for around $US95 ea. Before we had even stayed the night we had negotiated a 50% discount because of the state of the place. Here are a few reasons why:
- The airport transfer didn't arrive - Rooms had power points falling out of the wall, unsafe wiring to the bedside lamps, cockroaches, unclean glassware in the bathroom, lightglobes missing from lights, stains on the wall, no hot water, no shower head, cracked toilet seat, damaged doors, no cable TV or internet as advertised. - The bar was limited to just some softdrink and a few beers, and the tab had to be paid in cash so that they could "use the cash to restock the bar". - We could have anything on the restaurant menu because the chef would step out to buy the ingredients after we ordered... 2hrs later we were served overcooked meals that had turned cold and were served to us covered in cling-wrap. We had the choice of one table in the dining room because most light globes were out. We seemed to be the only overnight guest, all other people we could see were there for the bar.
After complaining, the manager was phoned and staff were told to "hold their bags" so that we couldn't leave until she arrived. The gates to the compound were also shut. Thankfully the manager who arrived with two policemen, was reasonable and after inspecting our rooms gave a discount. One last point... when we tried to pay for the food a regular customer of theirs posed as a staff member told us a price above the actual price so that he could get a cut... the beer in hand gave him away though!
