“Paseli's Backpackers”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We have recently stayed a few days at Paseli's Backpackers and found it a great place to stay. It is a little out of town but close to a main road, shops and transport. They arranged a driver to take us to the sights of Lusaka - a museum, a cultural village and to the bus depot to buy tickets. The staff were very helpful, did our laundry while the rooms were fine. Breakfast was well catered for and very enjoyable eating outside in a lawned area. . It was a quiet time so there were not many guests.

Room Tip: We had a private room with ensuite and fridge but there were also communal facilities which were fin...

We stayed here for only two nights before heading to Livingstone, but it was great! The place was clean, had hot showers, a great breakfast (we bought bacon and the staff fried it up for us in the morning.. along with the free eggs and toast we got anyways), the staff were all so very nice (even booked our bus tickets for us! And one night shift worker helped us buy shirts from his friend who specially designs them! Really awesome.) There was a washing machine there that we could use also.. such a luxury that i didnt expect at all! The beds were comfy with good nets. The atmosphere was great as well! The second night we stayed was a Saturday.. so Needless to say the bar down the road could be heard at Paseli and some people staying (or working.. not quite sure) at the hostel were quite loud at night but it really wasn't too bad.

Loved the bean bag chairs outside and the relaxing area... With a great pizza place up the road near the petrol station (also a full grocery store near.. very convenient)

I plan to stay here again! Love it.

(Stayed in the female dorm room)

I spent a couple of nights at Paseli when I arrived in Zambia; several nights in a dorm room, and one night camping (in my own tent). The hostel is relatively new and the building/grounds are in very nice shape: clean and spacious, very nice outdoor spaces. There is a fully equipped kitchen for guests to use, which was great, as there are a few markets around the corner and you can save some money by cooking your own meals. Clean shared bathrooms. Clean, in tact mosquito nets over each bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and it seems to me that they are very excited about working at Paseli and are constantly striving to make it better and better. I most definitely recommend it!

We enjoyed our stay there for 4 nights. The staff are friendly, the breakfast is very basic but free. We love the Internet but you should get up early in the morning to get the fast speed, be aware that evening Internet speed is incredible slow.
We had a suite room which has a small fridge and perfect for a small family. We recommend it to backpackers and small families who'd like to cook for themselves during travel.

A bit pricey (like the rest of Lusaka) but lovely, clean, safe, comfortable and homey backpackers . Very nice kitchen for self-catering. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Decent, safe location near big malls. Free wifi. Free breakfast which is yummy! Big, comfy beds with mosquito nets. Great place to stay in Lusaka!

Had high hopes given Paseli's reviews...ended up being just ok:

Pros:
- friendly and helpful staff
- free wifi (although it was a bit temperamental)
- nicely equipped guest kitchen (albeit very small)
- free breakfast and nice hang-out area in back yard

Cons:
- bit hard to find
- dorm beds seemed a bit pricy
- no hot water (or at least, both of our showers were cold both days)
- couldn't take credit card at time of payment but also didn't have paper money to make change (gave us change all in coins!)
- only one set of beds in dorm room had a mosquito net

It was a fine place but not anything special, which I was sort of expecting given all the good reviews.

Hello there! thank you so much for the review,we appreciate your comments.

Now to answer some of the PROS and CONS.

PROS:
-Thank you for admitting that the staff were FRIENDLY and HELPFUL, we try to make all our guests feel at home.
-As for the internet, it gets like that because of the Satellite transmission which we can't do much about.
We appreciate that compliment on our Kitchen and feel it's well sized and we have gone an extra mile to build an outdoor kitchen with all the equipment that a kitchen may need since we cannot break down the old kitchen.
-The you for the comment on the Hang out Dining area.

CON'S

-Being newly established in the area, definitely you may find a few challenges but if the person driving you knows Lusaka well it's not a hustle.Because North mead is a popular area and all the features in our street are quite popular i.e Bonjour filling Station, North mead Assemblies Church and Mozambique High Commission is our immediate neighbor. If your facing challenges to locate us, please feel free to call our mobile numbers +260 977 772 677, +260 955 233 495 or our land line +260 211 233 494.
-Our price is a little higher because we offer breakfast and FREE INTERNET which our competitors have failed to offer.
-Sorry you had to endure the cold water during the two days stay.Did you make any effort to inform our HELPFUL STAFF that you had that problem?
-We apologize for not accepting your Credit card as we will rectify that and as for the coins,we believe it's legal tender in our country and we will not always have change in paper and it's not usually big amounts that we give in coins.
-We would like to assure you that all our rooms have mosquito nets.

WE ARE HAPPY THAT YOU CHOSE TO STAY WITH PASELI BACKPACKERS!!!

The hostel still has the feel of a former house. The staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen is adequately supplied, but there are a few annoying things like the refrigerator door opens into the door that accesses the main room. It is a clean kitchen though and there are spots to eat outside. There is a pool table and some bean bag chairs which is nice. The beds are comfortable and have good mosquito nets that are intact. Cool paintings around.

Only real negative is there is no real place to hang out once the sun goes down and the mosquitoes come out as the house is always open to the outdoors. The mosquitoes were thick enough that I ended up going to bed very early most nights to be under the net.

Thank you so much for the great review !! We appreciate your comments, it's our aim to help our guests have a great time and a comfortable place to relax and unwind.

Now as for the hang out after it gets dark,we have the lounge, were you can watch T.V or relax, sorry for the open windows we just need some air circulation but will close the doors and windows earlier than usual.suggestions are welcome as to what your idea of a hang out should be,we can work on that.

Sadly for the mosquito,s,it's not very easy for us to control them in this season because they are breading a lot now and we have a few swamps, so I suggest mosquito repellant next time your in this region and taking some anti Malaria just to be safe..

It would be great to have you here again, hope you have a great time in your travels !!!
