Reviewed 29 January 2012

I reviewed this a few years ago and gave it a reasonable recommendation, but visited again in January 2012 and did not enjoy the experience nearly as much. The hotel is not being well maintained and for the price (Nu 1200, AU$23) you can do a whole lot better. Showers were luke-warm at best, some rooms have tiny single beds, the TV in my room had blown speakers that vibrated and distorted the sound beyond recognition at even low volumes, and my door was practically unlockable, having been pushed/kicked in by a previous visitor - one gentle push and you'd be in without a key. On the positive - the food is still great, but skip the accommodation.

This is a new hotel located in the car park behind the Swiss Bakery, so it is well situated near to the centre of Thimphu - a 1 minute walk to the traffic circle on Norzim Lam. This is a small, family-run hotel; rooms have an en-suite and cable TV and are simple (but clean), and the staff are really friendly. The food in the restaurant downstairs is excellent. The hotel was quiet on all of the several nights we stayed there bar one - when a bus load of tourists from India stayed the night. You can keep your room warm with the oil-filled electric heater provided, but the restaurant can be cold, so you might want to rug up for breakfast! As with any hotel in Bhutan, barking dogs can be an issue, but they were not too bad on the several nights we stayed.
