“Good ambiance”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

The whole stupa and the temple may appear less on the glamour side compared to other places in Bhutan, but what makes it interesting is the crowd. There was whole lot of aged devotes around the place who seemed to be enjoying the whole spiritual ambiance of the place as well as the weather and the beautiful surroundings. While there I also saw people circling the stupa which a prayer method used to show your gratitude when your wishes come true and also a way to ask for a wish. The place may not have much to offer but definitely the ambiance was good enough for me.

“Impressive monument”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

We were really interested to see the senior citizens sitting amidst the huge prayer wheels. They were really friendly and we enjoyed talking to them. A good heritage site.

“Stupa standing tall !”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

The National Memorial Chorten was just five minutes from Namgay Heritage Hotel where we stayed. The Memorial was built by Bhutan's third king H M Jigme Dorju Wangchuck also, known as the "father of modern Bhutan". He wanted to erect a monument carrying the message of world peace and prosperity. This was accomplished in 1972 by the Royal Family and the Cabinet and gifted to the nation in 1972 to serve as a monument to eternal peace, harmony and tranquility. The exquisite wall paintings and the delicately carved statues reflect deep insights into Buddhist spirituality and a rich tradition of prayer and learning . There are beautiful gardens along the pathway and a place for prayer near the entry gate where the aged sit and pray all day long. One of he most distinct features of the Chorten is its outwards rounded part that makes the Chorten look more like a vase rather than a classical dome. A magnificent structure dominating the landscape.

“Nothing to remember”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

This place is a memorial and very close to Thimpu. I am sure its part of any tour of Thimpu. Lots of elderly folk hang out here. They are dropped off here in by their relatives in the morning and then picked up after work. Nothing much here. 15 minutes is all you need here.

“Interesting Stop”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

This memorial also doubles as a senior citizen gathering place. There are many older folks who come here for their daily prayers but also to visit with others their age. A nice setting for them.
