“Far from Lonely Planet Description”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

The Hotel is well located in Thamel however they are now enjoying their popularity thanks to Lonely planet without taking care of their establishment. The room was in poor condition, full of dust on the floor and stains on the bedsheet. Despite the promises of the receptionnist about the electricity & hot water available 24/7, it was unfortunate to see he was wrong by 10pm and had to light our room with a candle given by the hotel. Could not sleep correctly with all the candles in the hotel without supervisory and the music coming from a bar next door! The hot water never appeared! For 1600NRP asked at the beginning it was not the value of my night at all! A hotel which need a real refurbishment...

The hotel was pretty good and we stayed there for a while, but the last night ruined everything.
I was on one of terraces having a smoke, and saw the manager and another employee creep up the stairs, into the hallway and to the door of my room. I watched them slowly open the door (they didnt even knock) and stare in..It just so happens that my girlfriend was in the shower at the time..(I should have locked the door but was only 20 steps down the hallway and you don't really expect people will just walk in your room). They kept looking in for a bit and then bolted down the stairs before I could get over to them. I went down to ask them what they were doing there and they tried to tell me that none of the staff members had been up the stairs at all...They ended up giving us a few different stories as to why they were there. One was the guy was looking for blankets in our room and the other was he said he saw a light on and was going to turn it off. We both could tell they were lying. It was all pretty sketchy. I can take bugs, problems with hot water and the loud noise coming from the the bars around the place, but having someone come and stare in your room when you girlfriend is in the shower is gross and intolerable.. Won't stay there again...

You can't beat what you get for the price tag at this place. Rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Do yourself a favor though, spend a buck or two more to get a nicer room with a cumfier matress... and make sure you get a room far from the main street, to give yourself a buffer away from the honking horns all night.

If you don't mind going to bed after 11:00... its a great place, but before that, you're stuck listening to a loud bar all night.

I stayed in this hotel for 2nd time and everything was OK. We bargained a good price. The room is nothing special, a little dump, but clean. Shower was hot. The hotel has good internet acces, you can do realy cheap phone calls to Europe - 5 min /1Eur. The laundry service is also good. The food in the hotelrestaurant is great, especially thukpa or chopsey. When my friend was sick, they helped us to get to hospital. When you leave the hotel for some trek or trip, you can safely leave there your luggage. Next time I´ll stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the top floor by the terace

We have mixed feelings about this place. We pre-booked a double room with bathroom about 2 weeks before our arrival as we were coming from Tibet. On arrival we found they had given our room away!! someone was meant to check out the morning of our arrival and requested to stay an additional night and instead of telling the guests that they had a booking they just gave our room away! It was very annoying and at first the staff were not very apologetic and insisted we moved to a different hotel 10 minutes away.

We ended up staying here for about 4 nights - a night a in shared bathroom then we managed to get our booked room. The room was basic and fairly clean. The double bed is very small - we've stayed in twin rooms with the same size beds as the double. It was very noisy at night with a live band playing next door to our room.

There was free wifi and the restaurant on the terrace was lovely and cheap. The hotel was well located close to lots of shops and restaurants.

I would like to give this place a higher rating, however the messing up of our booking really annoyed us. I would recommend this place to stay if you don't mind a bit of noise at night and you reconfirm your booking a few times!
