“Quiet hotel at the center of Thamel”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in October / November 2013. The location is great, right in the center of the bustling tourist area of Thamel. Despite the bustling location, our rooms faced the central garden and were still quiet at night. The staff was friendly and helpful. We'll stay again when we go back.

We are in our early 60s and stayed at the ABH for two nights in early October, 2013. Most excellent service and right if the middle of Thamel: a bit noisy outside the hotel but it got quiet pretty early and was a great place to stroll around in...many shops and restaurants...good prices as a rule, but good natured bargaining is logical. Loads of attention to detail, lots of character and very, very good service with friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast in the garden behind the hotel...they have their own generator to maintain the power during the normal rolling blackouts in the city...a nice touch. Rooms were clean, nicely decorated, very comfortable, and had great character. The hotel also arranges local and regional tours which was nice to see...We would definitely stay there again: two nights in the city was WAY to short and the hotel was a great base!

This was our third visit to AGH (would have been 4th if there was room). Having been there the same time last year we did not hesitate to book our selfs in to AGH again for our pre and post trek stay. The staff or should I say our family personally greeted us by name and also made the effort to give us the same room we had such pleasant memories of last year. Each and everytime we leave the hotel they would ask if everything was up to our expectations and if they could further assist - all with a smile. As for the hotel itself - the rooms are fantastic and we have tried their standard/deluxe and super deluxe. The showers have great pressure, bed is very comfortable and the room has all the amnesties u would expect from a typical 4/5 star franchise hotel. Location is in the heart of Thamel with possibly the largest supermarket 10 seconds away. Breakfast is good and comes with the friendliest waiters. Do not come expecting the ritz/Hilton etc, but come expecting to be greeted by friends who will soon make you feel very much at home and you will be pleased. P.s. The lobby is just like a very cozy living room.

Thamel, the tourist centre of KTM, is where it all happens for eating, drinking, shopping and preparing for your trek. The Ambassador is right in the midst of this chaotic area but as soon as you step in the door you are a million miles away. You will be greeted by friendly, welcoming, helpful staff in this calm, quiet hotel. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are happy and comfortable.
Rooms are neat, clean and have a lovely, simple Nepalese style. Electricity, hot water and free WiFi are reliable and plentiful! Breakfast is great and they even provide complimentary juice, beer and fruit in your room. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Nepal.

Room Tip: We had a garden side room which was lovely and quiet.

Ambassador Garden is located in an excellent position in the heart of thamel. It's 15 mins walk from Durbar Square. Despite its position - in the middle of the crowded, colorful, busy Thamel - it's a peaceful oasis where you can sleep very well.
Our Room was so clean and perfect in each detail (as the whole hotel is) with welcome drinks and fruits.
Breakfast is also very good. The breakfast set included in room price is delicious: 2 eggs any way you prefer, juice (can or fresh), tea or coffee, potatoes and sausages or bacon or ham. Toasts with jam and butter complete the meal.

Definitely recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the garden.

We stayed in Ambassador Garden Hotel a couple of separate nights at the beginning and end of our Nepal trip.

This place is a bit of wonder; a quiet and calm oasis right in the middle of the chaos that is the Thamel area of Nepal.

The rooms are the hotel are not huge but have ample room for the time that we spent in it, why would you come to Nepal and spend your days inside! They are fully equipped with LCD TV, good AC, safe and fridge with complementary beer, water and fruit juice (and a complementary basket of fruit too).

The bathrooms are a little on the small side however they are clean, have plenty of hot water and smell OK unlike some bathrooms in this part of the world.

There is a good sized seating area by the hotel entrance which allows you to chill in comfort whilst waiting a flight etc and there is free wifi and computer access too if required.

The staff at the hotel are amongst some of the friendliest and most helpful staff I have encountered in any hotel. nothing is too much trouble and they are a mine of useful, local information.

I have used many small hotels in Kathmandu and without a doubt this is the best I will certainly be returning here on my next trip to the himalayan region.

Alright guys.

If you're coming to Nepal, I sure hope you're not uppity or uptight as this is not Switzerland. This hotel is in a nice location for eating and drinking, has a great breakfast, warm and concerned staff, great travel arrangements and drivers, and you can feel safe laying your head to rest here.

I spent 4 nights here, had all my day trips organized by the hotel, was allowed to hang out until my late and almost delayed 2am flight, and by the time I was left everyone knew my name and my favorite cold can of Nepal Ice beer.

One of the reasons you come to Nepal is for the people. If you stay at the chain foreign hotels it may be a little more like 'back home,' but you'll be comfortable and have a great experience here. Take a taxi if you need to go to the casinos.

Room Tip: Garden facing rooms are preferable. If you arrive late at night as many do, these may already be tak...
