Owner description: Bouddhanath stupa is the most liked sightseeing place in Kathmandu. Visitors are required to pay NRs. 250(Foreign Nationals) NRs. 50 (SAARC Nationals) NRs. 250 (Chinese) per person (Below 10 years free) as entrance fees to the Bouddhanath. A lot of Tibetan people reside around the Stupa. And it is very famous and holy place specially of Buddhists People. It is one of the most popular world heritage site of Nepal. Breakfree Adventures offer Bouddhanath Private Sightseeing Day Tours.

Despite being in the middle of kathmandu, surrounded by battered roads and even more battered traffic Bodnath manages to retain an aura of calm devotion. It is very moving to see the deep reverence with which those processing obviously feel about this place. A visit in the early morning, as the sun rises is an experience that will not dissapoint. dont forget to move clockwise! I did not pay to go inside Bodnath on any of my visits, so I cannot comment.

This place has great atmosphere not too sure whether it's because of or despite all the tourist shops that surround it. To suddenly see the stupor after walking through an 'ordinary' street was breathtaking. Not a bad place to shop as there is a lot of competition to keep prices reasonable, after haggling of course

We stayed at the Happiness Guest House in the Bodnath stupa village two times because the vibes at the stupa are just SO good. If you do stay in the stupa village, check in before 9pm; the entire place is shut down by 10pm, and you'll have to make loud noises if you want a place to sleep regardless if you made a reservation or not. It's about a 400Rs cab ride from Thamel and 300 from the Kathmandu International Airport, and we payed 1500Rs per night for accommodation. They charge 150Rs per day for non-Nepalese to enter the complex unless you tell the guard you're staying inside. The collective energy of the monks and visitors will make you feel like a happy little balloon, especially at dawn and dusk when the most people come to walk around the stupa and pray (always walk clockwise!). There are tons of shops and restaurants along the outer wall selling clothes, jewellery, art and snacks that you can bargain for. A few ragged dogs live in the stupa village that sleep all day and make aggressive sounds at night, but they seem pretty harmless otherwise. Most restaurants have wifi but the two best connections are at restaurants called Flavours and The Roadhouse. Definitely worth a day trip at the very least but we recommend spending a couple nights!
