Great place with great service. Really accommodating and booked the rest of my trekking trip through them at prices I could not get anywhere else. Close to everything and a great base for all Nepal trips, they even will let you stash luggage there and offer cheaper rates with longer stays.

The name lives true, this family hotel has lots of nice features. There's a delightful spot on the roof for breakfast. The bathroom was new and well maintained with clear hot water at any time of day (that's quite an achievement for Thamel area). Excellent security, and 24 hour access. Most amiable staff. The hotel is located in a discrete ally off a main tourist street in Thamel called Ashok Galli. You can ask any local shop owner on the main street where that ally is so it was very easy to find, and better than hitting the busy street directly when you head out in the morning. We took a big 3 bed room and it was spacious and modern. For a special time in Thamel, head towards the main entertainment area from Hotel Family Home and turn right at the wider intersection, to find 3 or more Nepalese style night clubs on the left (I don't mean the notorious "dance bar"). The music is so unique and the atmosphere is pretty family friendly for an exciting evening out for all.

Room Tip: The 3 bed room was lovely, with a spacious layout and chill-out spot with comfy chairs.

We decided to try a new hotel on our 11 trip to Nepal. Hotel Family Home had high ratings, so we decided to give it a try.

Hotel staff met us at the airport and took us in to the hotel. Somehow, they confused where we were to go, as they took us to a room in the Hotel Family home "Annex". The room was "just OK", but definitely not what we booked. After some discussion, they realized their error and off we went to the main building. (Small problem, they made us pay for the rickshaw to carry our bags.).

Room at the main Hotel Family Home was really quite nice -- a "deluxe" room with refrigerator AC etc. (But, it is Kathmandu so it didn't block out a most annoying howling & barking dog (next door neighbour) all night.) Hotel is odd, however, in that it has no lobby, just a small desk. Its bottom floor is an Italian Restaurant (which was VERY good), not associated with the hotel. Bag storage (during trekking) was not very secure. There was no safety deposit box.

Breakfast was on the roof on a nice patio (luckily the weather was good, because the indoor eating area was not that interesting). The butter served with breakfast was horrible -- we observed that, like us, no one at the other tables could stomach it. You'd think they'd figure this out but on return weeks later the same awful butter was served. We ate subsequent breakfasts at Northfield Cafe.

We found the staff attentive, albeit at times just a little too buddy-buddy. Some may like this, but we found it off-putting and very unlike our experience in other Kathmandu hotels. Staff, especially very friendly Babu, seem quite adept at organizing tours etc -- though prices seemed a bit high.

Upon returning from our 2nd trek, the hotel was full so they found us an alternative hotel for 1 night. It was OK, but we then moved back to the Family home, however to a room not as nice (though still quite clean and comfortable enough) but initially at the same price as the deluxe room.

In the end, although the rooms were decent, we decided we will return to our old favourite hotel for our next trip to Nepal. For the same price, we prefer a hotel with a proper lobby, restaurant, luggage storage security, and safety deposit boxes, and, importantly, professional staff.

Room Tip: High floors are quieter; there is an elevator (but beware during power cuts!) Deluxe room is very nice -- try for a discounted price. Have dinner at ground floor Italian restaurant.

This BnB has a great location in a center of Nepal with easy access to all main attractions and temples. Kapil, the manager was very helpful and prepared for us entire trip in terms of "must visit" places. He even arranged the driver who was all the time taking us from one place to another so that we could make the most of our short stay. Balcony where they serve the breakfast was amazing and overall experience in Nepal as well. Located in the center means you wont get as much sleep as you may need, but that's how all Kathmandu is - busy and alive
