“Excellent Service”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Just returned from a 3 nights trip to Kathmandu. Just an all round great hotel. The staff are absolutely top notch and are always there to serve you with a smile. Food is great if not excellent. The bar is pretty nice too. They have a Valet desk which also serves as a taxi desk, and is quite reasonable compared to other 5 star hotels. The room furniture, carpet and bathroom fixtures are a tad bit old but in decent working condition. Had a view of the pool from my room window. The only downer is the fact the hotel is a bit far from Durbar Marg and Thamel, but not a problem because taxis are easily available. overall, a great hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the view of the Pool and Grounds. You can also see the hills in the background.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Soaltee Crowne Plaza Kathmandu!

Thank you very much for taking your valuable time to post your comments on Trip Advisor regarding your recent visit to Soaltee Crowne Plaza Kathmandu!

We are delighted to note that you have enjoyed your stay and that you were satisfied with the services rendered. Your feedback on the hotel is extremely useful and indeed very encouraging for our team members to keep working hard to continue to exceed our guest’s expectations with genuinely warm and indigenous Nepalese Hospitality. We have also noted your feedback on the location of the hotel and agree that it is a little away from the city. On the contrary there is an easy access to "Swoyambhunath" (Monkey Temple), other "World Heritage" sites and the main city via taxis and the location does offer the hotel a calm and serene atmosphere.

We look forward to your continued visits and take this opportunity to assure you of our best attention and service at all times.

Warm regards,
Nalin Mandiratta

General Manager.

The CP Soaltee is a tad tired. The furniture and furnishings are showing their age. However, this is still a good hotel by world standards, and an excellent hotel by Nepali standards. The grounds are beautiful: an island of tranquility in a noisy, chaotic city. The breakfast buffet is superb, and the Chinese restaurant downstairs serves delicious fare. The shops downstairs sell reasonably priced merchandise, but for the real bargains, just stroll out the front gate, and there are the cheapie stores! I would like to thank Ms. Muna Bhandari, Guest Relations Executive for all her kindnesses (cookies, and free internet, because I am an IHG Rewards Club member. I was part of a group, so no IHG points, but that is standard practice.

Room Tip: Try and get a higher floor, with a view of the "Monkey Stupa" on the hill.

This is a 5 star property in kathmandu. Also it's a chain of crowne plaza hotels so, I thought this hotel would be very high class hotel but it was completely opposite.

Pros:

Check in: They were able to provide me early check in and they also changed our room from rear side view to garden view room.

Room view: They have a nice garden and swimming pool view room if u take last even number rooms.

Garden: There is a big garden in the hotel.

Cons:

They have more respect for people who come in large number in a group of 30-50 people, delegates but no respect for the families and speciallt Indians.

Bed: Extra bed for 3rd person was very uncomfortable.

Bathroom : There is something wrong with their tubs. There was a water logging problem in the bathrooms. Size of the bathroom is not large. There was also something wrong with the showers.

Room Service: Room service is damn pathetic and if u want something then u have to remind them 2-3 times then also there is no surity whether they provide the thing u asked them or not. Also even if they get it they might take 2-3 hours or may be they don't provide u anything. They don't have talcum powder, oil, swing kit, etc. Don't depend for basic things as in which u expect in 5 star hotel.

Food: I had a 3night/4days stay (in the 1st week of june) in hotel with breakfast in Garden terrace restaurant everyday. In all 3 days there was something wrong with the food. Food quality in the restaurant is very poor. They don't change the menu for vegetarians and may be for non-vegetarians also sometimes. The food is very unhygienic and stale. Juices are not chilled.

Linen: They don't change the linen themselves until u put a change my linen card.

Maintenance: Maintenance people are always reaching but they will never reach u. So, dont expect anything from them.

Locker: They don't have fixed locker in the room. So don't keep ur valuable items in the lockers as can be moved from one place to another easily.

Wifi: You have to pay 500 nepali rupees for an hour. Wifi is not complimentary.

Location: It is far away from the main city and for 1 non AC Taxi u have to pay 300nepali rupee for 3 km.

Check out: They won't pick your luggage from the hotel. So please take ur luggage yourself. Don't depend on them. You might miss ur flight if u do so.

No Activities for kids: They don't have any activities for small kids.

Conclusion: It doesn't seems to be a 5 star property. It's just a 3 star hotel according to me.

Room Tip: Go for last even number rooms. If you want any room service then just call them a day before.

With a huge compound this is one place where I would prefer to stay in a crowded and polluted city like Kathmandu. For older people the rooms near the elevator is preferred as walking to the flanks 35 rooms away several times in a day will be tiring. The rooms are good with more or less Indian taste. The hotel has WIFI but its not free..ha ha. The service is good and the Indian food served is good too.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the entrance

The lobby area is unattractive, the noise levels due to construction are high, too many mosquitoes in the hallway that enter the room, the food quality can be greatly improved. You can get better value for money at other places in Kathmandu.

I stayed in Soaltee for 4 nights with family and it was a fabulous holiday. The hotel is very well organised and has perfect staff. Right from airport transfers to check-in; right from food to sight-seeing..everything was lovely. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The swimming pool is awesome. On checking in there was some renovation sound coming from top floor; reoprted the same to reception and within twenty minutes they changed us to a beautiful room. The staff is warm, cordial and receptive to your feedbacks. The food especially at the Chinese resturant was marvellous. Its very neat, clean and well-organised. Some suggestions too....firstly it would be great if they start with some kids club or activities; another would be that there should be exhaust in the washrooms and lastly if they can organise some cultural programme for guests it would be highly appreciated. Overall a memorable and beautiful stay.

Room Tip: Make sure to request the staff to give you a room with no noise of renovation
