“Rooms with a view in Kathmandu”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

The hotel is a short distance from the airport and centrally located. My room gave me a spectacular view of the Bodhnath Stupa which is illuminated at night provided electricity is available. The Hyatt has its own generator so there was only momentary black outs. I can't say enough about the food. It was excellent and the portions were very generous. For a solo traveler the rooms were enormous, however, there had been water damage in the bathroom shower area. One service greatly appreciated was the 2 one liter bottles of water provided each day. It is important to stay well hydrated. They did provide 24 hours of free WIFI service.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side of the hotel has the best view. The front side of the hotel rooms look out u...

This is a really great hotel. Great food, outstanding service, large and modern accommodations, beautiful grounds and a great location! It is an island of civility and luxury in a sea of chaos, poverty and bad air. If you travel to Kathmandu by all means stay here.

Just stayed here with 15 friends on our annual golf and casino trip. It was a great location for us, as it was only a short trip from the airport, and was equidistant from the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort. The other big selling point was the fact that it had a casino on site, which provided all the nightly entertainment we needed. The staff were very attentive and accommodating any time we had any requests. Our flight out of Kathmandu wasn't until 9pm, so the biggest help was the fact that they gave us all a late checkout (5pm), which allowed us to golf during the day, and then still come back to the hotel and have a leisurely clean-up and checkout. The food was good, even if it was a bit pricey. The rooms will need a bit of maintenance over the next couple of years, especially the stone and glass in the showers, so hopefully they will keep an eye on this and take care of it before it ends up working against them.
Overall, we all had a great time. I would likely use this as a base in Kathmandu again if my wife and I decide to travel together to Nepal.

Exactly what you would expect from Hyatt, which is especially appreciated in Kathmandu, given the local standards.

One bad point is that WIFI is still not included, which is a shame when all local hotels/bars/restaurants have free WIFI.

An oasis indeed in the chaotic and noisy city... Very near to the airport and they can always pick you up if you arrange it. It gives you a feeling of peace, safety and relaxation even if you are there for business, especially by the pool. My room was on the top floor with a view of the Budha Stupa which is only 5 mins on foot. The food was really nice and Regency Club is the best option as you can have breakfast, snacks during the day and a light buffet in the evening, as there isn't much to do in the city after dark anyway. The shuttle bus is also very helpfull as you can avoid the taxi ride to the city. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and there is a generator so no power cuts in the hotel, only for a few seconds maybe. The lobby is really beautiful with mini stupas and temples and very atmospheric at night with candle light and the live local band playing music. The staff is very helpful and polite and the hotel is keeping the Hyatt standards in general but don't try to compare it with Europe or US because you are in Nepal!!!!

Everything was perfect, from the service to the room. The grounds were phenomenal. You'd be hard-pressed to think that you're in the middle of Kathmandu. Food was great. It's a bit pricey, but that's ok if you're just wanting to pamper yourself a bit. My only wish was that the pool would be a bit warmer. But that's small quibble.

The hotel sits in spacious grounds far from the hubbub of the city and is extremely grand. The public areas have loads of marble, sculptures and fine prints, with a local folk group playing in the foyer every night. There are a few shops in the hotel with lovely gifts, although quite expensive. The Rox restaurant was very good, serving Italian food, but was also expensive - I found the other restaurant on the lower floor overlooking the pool area offered food of comparable quality but was more casual (and cheaper). Breakfast was in this room also, and was as good a buffet as you would get anywhere in the world. The bar area at the rear of the reception area was very comfortable and the staff mixed excellent cocktails. There is a supermarket just outside the hotel grounds if you need any supplies (drinks or snacks). The grounds were very spacious with a lovely pool and jacuzzi and everything was kept to a high standard. There is also a casino, but I kept away from temptation this time! The staff were all excellent and very efficient. The hotel has its own generator so when the power cuts out this kicks in very quickly. The only downside was the card entry system - I've stayed here twice and each time the cards to gain entry to the corridor and to the room were completely erratic - generally the staff had to open the corridor door for us after we stood there looking helpless. I would highly recommed this hotel, I've stayed in many and this is up there with the best, particularly when thinking of what poverty there is outside its grounds.
