“Great Property but they could make the experience better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

Fantastic and huge property ... very traditional lobby where you could take many pictures .. same about the huge spread out property ... very good swimming pool and the hot whirlpool is quite relaxing .... breakfast spread is decent (though service could improve) .. our package also had dinner and surprisingly they did change the options each day ... so plenty of variety .... security is good .... they have a small gym (did not use) and a spa ...they have a casino but all casinos are closed in Nepal over some taxation issue.. the hotel has a mix nationality and very classy clientele .... All about the plus and now lets talk about the minus ... which leaves a bad taste
No complimentary interest / wi-fi (in today's time this is criminal) .... no complimentary usage of sauna / steam (very disappointing) .. since I had booked a package thru a travel agency i would not get rewards points for my stay (there should be a way to fix this ... its about customer loyalty and feel good factor) .... travel desk is expensive for local sight seeing ... step out of hotel and bang opposite is a market . there is a travel agency on the opposite foot on the left .. his rates are almost 40-50% cheaper .. the guy is super polite, informative and provides much better service .... in case u plan for a flight to see mount Everest try and do it the 1st days ..we had kept it for the last day and the weather was bad that day and our flights were cancelled .... also the massage outside the hotel bang opposite is better and at 30% the price .... take your pick ....

Room Tip: Look for pool facing rooms .... we were a group of friends and they were able to give us connected r...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and your appreciation about the hotel and its facilities. Kindly note internet, as well as complimentary sauna access is being offered for our Regency Club, Suite and Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum & Diamond tiered guests. We have also created a WiFi hot spot in our Rox Bar during operational hours for our guests to stay connected. I shall certainly see how we can improve the service of the outsourced travel desk to ensure the same engagement is provided as if you are in contact with a Hyatt associate.

Thank you one again and we look forward to welcoming you to Hyatt Regency Kathmandu again in the not distant future.

Best regards,

Room: The room was very clean, if a bit standard. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had a separate shower and tub. Honestly, not much to speak of, but nice and comfortable.

Of note too, was the hotel pool(s). Relaxing in the pool (hot tub or the normal pool), after a long day of exploring the streets of Kathmandu is a real treat.

Location: I found the location quite good, but it may depend upon your interests or itinerary. It is only a few minutes walk from the excellent Boudhanath stupa; in between, there are many shops and restaurants (and money changers, with better rates than those in Durbar Square or Thamel areas). Across the street is a handy grocery store (which is attached to a complex with a stores selling all manner of fake clothes and bootleg CDs / DVDs).

Service: The front desk and room service (which was good and relatively cheap) agents were routinely excellent. The hotel offers a free shuttle service into town (not to or from the airport, however), which was extremely handy for tourists.

Value: For 5K Hyatt points per night, this hotel was a very good value.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and for your appreciation about the hotel and the facilities offered. As mentioned by you, the swimming pool truly is one of our well received facilities and is a real treat after an exhausting day. As a hotel we are fortunate to be located in such close proximity to the UNESCO heritage site of Bouddhanath Stupa, as it makes travel for our guests to explore Kathmandu more easy. Your appreciation about the front desk and the room service staffs is very encouraging and shall share with them.

We are delighted to know that your stay with us was memorable and you found it to be good value for money and as a benefit of being able to avail of free nights as a Hyatt Gold Passport member. Thank you once again and we look forward to your return visit in the not too distant future.

We had organised a corporate offsite in June 2014 at this property and had booked almost 50 rooms. the entire payment for rooms was settled by my credit card.

12 days after my check out i was surprised to see a debit charge on my card for Rs 22,000.

The Hotel Finance guys are cheats and they have misused my credit card details and charged my card without any authorization or approval from us. they have done this without even informing us.

I am taking up this case with the competent authorities and the bank.

Everyone using this hotel should be beware and do not give your credit card details to these cheats.

The hotel is very average & looks like the oldest Hyatt property.

The finance team is full of crooks.

This place is the only part of Kathmandu where you could roam around without a face mask.
A beautiful building with all expected amenities and good food and that to in heart of city.
This is one of the clearly visible spaces from flight, so you could easily guess it's decent size.
Staff is really supportive. I find this place as one good reason to visit Kathmandu again.

Room Tip: A pool facing room gives a awesome feel.

I wished there was a way to give this hotel a rating of 4 and a half out of 5! I stayed here with my girlfriend for a weekend getaway of lazing by the pool and walking around the stupa. The check-in was not as smooth as could have been. But, luckily for us a young lady called Bidhya was there to save the day, she was very good at satisfying our requirements and after about 45 minutes we were finally in our room with our luggage. The quality of sleep here is almost excellent, shame about the thousands of pigeons that flock here every single evening. Even though they do stop cooeing towards 9 - 10pm. But, the mess they leave behind! The breakfast is very good and there is a good mix of food to satisfy most palettes. The knock by house keeping on our door at 9.30 am was very annoying, asking us if they could clean our room!!! Never have i experienced that in a '5' star hotel, this is Nepal after all!! I shouted no from inside the room and they eventually came to make the bed later that afternoon. The pool facilities are excellent and it is a day well spent if thats what you like. Even though some of the prices are somewhat steep for what you get.... All in all a great stay and will be back in the future for a swim and maybe even an overnight stay. Highly recommended hotel in Kathmandu!

Room Tip: Go as high as you can for views of the stupa and ask for a room close to the lifts with a pool view!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused to you due to housekeeping staff and the check-in not being smooth ,but glad to know that Ms. Bidhya was able to assist you. I have noted your concern regarding the pigeons, we are aware of this issue and continuously trying to eradicate this problem with spikes being installed where possible, unfortunately we have not been achieve a 100% result due to the design of the hotel and this being a common problem amongst the buildings in Kathmandu valley. Your appreciation about the food and the pool is very encouraging.

Thank you for recommending us and we do look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

You drive past manicured gardens into the the porch of the hotel. Very imposing , beautiful Nepali architecture, a pond in the centre and beautiful brass doors leading you into the main lobby and reception area. From the check in area you see a balcony a beyond that in the have dark green verdant mountains. All lovely to behold. The check in staff was quite off hand, not particularly welcoming . We go up to our floor which turns out to a no smoking floor when we had asked for , and had been confirmed by the hotel that we would get one. We go down back to the check in man, he says ' oh yes you wanted smoking, but if you want it we can't give it to you now you have sit and wait', we ask why ? The hotel is not full it's just one room? We get a nonchalant shrug. We say want a late check out, we are told he can't be sure he will let us know ! By that time it wasn't getting any easier , we just took the room they had given us. The room is a nice size, okay furnishing, but the view was lovely. Bathroom was large, but the basin and the shower were choked and blocked. We were just too annoyed and tired to make anymore fuss. We hoped by taking off the basin stopper the turn down service would notice it . But of course they dint. The tissue paper dropped by my partner near the trash can wasn't even picked up. The beds were turned down. Every time next door room bathrooms were used? What a racket it made!! Don't expect a lie in !! The 2 nights we stayed there we found the staff quite disinterested in helping or being hospitable!!! Asked for some suggestions of shops we were met by a blank stare. One of them told us ' we don't do that' ! Wow!! The day we left we had guards , bell boys all smiling trying to carry out our very few pieces of luggage to the car. The only time we saw smiles and offer of help. Of course it was tip time!! Dint expect this from hotel like Hyatt .

Room Tip: The rooms facing the back garden.
