“Very average hotel for the Hyatt brand”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

My family stayed here for 4 nights. The rooms were clean and decent enough as we weren't expecting the usual Hyatt standards of other developed countries. Fair enough.
Expect extremely slow service in the cafe if ordering a la carte. The buffet variety is quite limited.
We did enjoy our dinner at the Italian restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The food was much better than the inedible pasta I ordered in the cafe (way too salty).
Overall, the hotel is looking worn and dated. Could use some upgrading.

This hotel was absolutely amazing. The staff were first rate and made sure you were taken care of. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and well kept. The architecture of the hotel is fabulous and has a flair for the Nepalese culture. It is well situated by the Stuppa which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel through the back gate. The gate has a security guard and there is a bell to ring to be let back in. The hotel has a shuttle service to all the major tourist areas from the hotel which is free. The food at the hotel is first rate and varies each day. I recommend getting a Stuppa view room which is well worth it. The size of the rooms and the decor is great. It is very easy to arrange tours also as you can do it right on site. The pool and the grounds are a great oasis of tranquility that makes you feel so relaxed. The only complaint I have is that they charge for internet access which I would have liked to have had included in this day and age. A definite return destination for me.

Room Tip: Ask for a Stuppa view room on the 4th floor.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our NEPAL trip.

On check in we requested for a higher floor room with a view. We also inquired at the reception if buffet lunch is served as we were very hungry -

We were informed there is no buffet lunch and the hotel is over booked. Hence they have upgraded us and would be giving us a room on the same level as reception. We were given the room keys and had to find our way to our room. When we entered the room it was at the ground floor with no view, dirty bed, hair over the pillow, soiled head board. We were given the basic room and the front desk had lied to us about an upgraded room. We have stayed in Hyatt before in many other countries and are aware of the different rooms offered by Hyatt.

As we were hungry we called the restaurant to order lunch and requested them to keep it ready. We went down to the restaurant to have lunch - to our surprise there was a buffet lunch being served. When we checked with the chef he said Hyatt has buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner served every day.

We headed back to the reception and requested for change of room. To our surprise the desk staff called the guest services desk and asked if they had cleaned the room. As if we were lying about the uncleaned room.

This was getting too irritating for us and we asked for the general manager or duty manager to whom we could log our compliant. The front desk informed us Duty manager would only come by 6pm for night shift and the general manager is too busy and cannot be reached.

Really disappointed we resigned to our fate and wasted 400 USD for two nights stay on an old, badly managed, under trained staff hotel.

Positives -
Excellent bathroom, Good swimming pool, great staff in the cafe and restaurant.

Room Tip: pay more and go for club regency at the top floor

Dear Guest

Kindly accept my apology not meeting you during your stay as I was not in Nepal, however, my assistant certainly would have made time to speak to you.
Indeed the hotel was sold out but your room should have been perfectly arranged nevertheless. To my knowledge our housekeeping manager met you and extended a massage to both of you, trying to ensure you will be comfortable. As I was made to understand your first room was located on the third level of the hotel, which is the same level as reception. I trust there must have been a misunderstanding between the two restaurants, which were explained to you my our associates describing the same upon arrival, as one restaurant does not serve buffet style, whereas the all day dining restaurant does.

I hope to be able to welcome you back and I shall ensure meeting you personally.

Fantastic and huge property ... very traditional lobby where you could take many pictures .. same about the huge spread out property ... very good swimming pool and the hot whirlpool is quite relaxing .... breakfast spread is decent (though service could improve) .. our package also had dinner and surprisingly they did change the options each day ... so plenty of variety .... security is good .... they have a small gym (did not use) and a spa ...they have a casino but all casinos are closed in Nepal over some taxation issue.. the hotel has a mix nationality and very classy clientele .... All about the plus and now lets talk about the minus ... which leaves a bad taste
No complimentary interest / wi-fi (in today's time this is criminal) .... no complimentary usage of sauna / steam (very disappointing) .. since I had booked a package thru a travel agency i would not get rewards points for my stay (there should be a way to fix this ... its about customer loyalty and feel good factor) .... travel desk is expensive for local sight seeing ... step out of hotel and bang opposite is a market . there is a travel agency on the opposite foot on the left .. his rates are almost 40-50% cheaper .. the guy is super polite, informative and provides much better service .... in case u plan for a flight to see mount Everest try and do it the 1st days ..we had kept it for the last day and the weather was bad that day and our flights were cancelled .... also the massage outside the hotel bang opposite is better and at 30% the price .... take your pick ....

Room Tip: Look for pool facing rooms .... we were a group of friends and they were able to give us connected r...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and your appreciation about the hotel and its facilities. Kindly note internet, as well as complimentary sauna access is being offered for our Regency Club, Suite and Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum & Diamond tiered guests. We have also created a WiFi hot spot in our Rox Bar during operational hours for our guests to stay connected. I shall certainly see how we can improve the service of the outsourced travel desk to ensure the same engagement is provided as if you are in contact with a Hyatt associate.

Thank you one again and we look forward to welcoming you to Hyatt Regency Kathmandu again in the not distant future.

Room: The room was very clean, if a bit standard. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had a separate shower and tub. Honestly, not much to speak of, but nice and comfortable.

Of note too, was the hotel pool(s). Relaxing in the pool (hot tub or the normal pool), after a long day of exploring the streets of Kathmandu is a real treat.

Location: I found the location quite good, but it may depend upon your interests or itinerary. It is only a few minutes walk from the excellent Boudhanath stupa; in between, there are many shops and restaurants (and money changers, with better rates than those in Durbar Square or Thamel areas). Across the street is a handy grocery store (which is attached to a complex with a stores selling all manner of fake clothes and bootleg CDs / DVDs).

Service: The front desk and room service (which was good and relatively cheap) agents were routinely excellent. The hotel offers a free shuttle service into town (not to or from the airport, however), which was extremely handy for tourists.

Value: For 5K Hyatt points per night, this hotel was a very good value.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and for your appreciation about the hotel and the facilities offered. As mentioned by you, the swimming pool truly is one of our well received facilities and is a real treat after an exhausting day. As a hotel we are fortunate to be located in such close proximity to the UNESCO heritage site of Bouddhanath Stupa, as it makes travel for our guests to explore Kathmandu more easy. Your appreciation about the front desk and the room service staffs is very encouraging and shall share with them.

We are delighted to know that your stay with us was memorable and you found it to be good value for money and as a benefit of being able to avail of free nights as a Hyatt Gold Passport member. Thank you once again and we look forward to your return visit in the not too distant future.
