The Kathmandu Guest House was an ideal place to stay as it was our first time here in Nepal and the location is right in the centre of Thamel. Hey, if it's good enough for Ricky Martin and the Beatles it must be good right?
We purposely booked a room in the new wing and the photos on the internet are a bit misleading as the rooms looked much better on the website. The room whilst clean is very basic though we did appreciate the complimentary water and cable TV. There was hot water everyday and the beds were comfortable but like some reviews have mentioned before, the prices are not cheap and I think you can find better value for your money elsewhere.
Some of the great things about staying here was the courtyard garden - it is a sanctuary and very peaceful place to chill out from the hustle and bustle of outside. And we also loved the Illy coffee. The breakfast each day was pretty much standard.
Wi-fi connection was sporadic at best; free in lobby cafe but extra for rooms. The staff can be a bit brisk but this may be a cultural thing.
