“Great location.”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

The rooms are quite simple but the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. We arranged a tour through the manager and it turned out very well. It is a classic looking hotel, decent priced, very close to Thamel shopping and restaurants. Best part--free shuttle from airport to hotel upon arrival. (Have to pay for hotel shuttle to leave for the airport). We were there in monsoon season so very muggy and no air conditioning in hotel. Fans were readily provided.
Enjoyed this hotel--quiet and restful. Eating breakfast in the courtyard was nice--food was average.
The Nepali food from the restaurant was excellent though.

This place is good value for money. I've made many mistakes with hotels in Nepal but I can assure you this one is a safe bet. It's nothing plush but it's in a perfect location, atmosphere, pretty gardens, a decent restaurant and a buzz with people beginning or ending their treks.

Nice hotel in the heart of Thamel. Rooms from 3€ to 100€. Good place to meet people and change experiences with other travellers.
Good food and nice staff!
We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom paying 6$ each / night.

Wasn't amazing but for the price it exceeded expectations, Helpful staff on advice out of the hotel as well as in. No pool or fitness centre as said in the description but never felt the need for one whilst there as there is so much to do in the location outside of the hotel. Plus, felt very safe once there, when just entering kathmandu with the slight culture shock but truly awesome when get used to busy streets and lively atmosphere.. :)

The Kathmandu Guest House was an ideal place to stay as it was our first time here in Nepal and the location is right in the centre of Thamel. Hey, if it's good enough for Ricky Martin and the Beatles it must be good right?

We purposely booked a room in the new wing and the photos on the internet are a bit misleading as the rooms looked much better on the website. The room whilst clean is very basic though we did appreciate the complimentary water and cable TV. There was hot water everyday and the beds were comfortable but like some reviews have mentioned before, the prices are not cheap and I think you can find better value for your money elsewhere.

Some of the great things about staying here was the courtyard garden - it is a sanctuary and very peaceful place to chill out from the hustle and bustle of outside. And we also loved the Illy coffee. The breakfast each day was pretty much standard.

Wi-fi connection was sporadic at best; free in lobby cafe but extra for rooms. The staff can be a bit brisk but this may be a cultural thing.

Thamel! The most happening place in kathmandu! If you ask me then Thamel is the right place to stay And the guesthouse is right in the heart of Thamel! Room is ok! Batthroom compare to subcontinent it was clean! Food in the restaurant is good and cheap. Staffs ware very professional and polite. We booked 5 Rooms for three days and in one room Bathroom had some problem we asked them to change the room they upgraded the room to Suite ! Sweet! Overall it was a pleasant stay in KGH.

Great place, cozy & comfy atmosphere, awesome courtyard, great hospitality. Nice buffet breakfast in the morning. Friendly people all around. The Travel Desk can arrange you anything you want. Bookshop, Jewelry shops and Souvenir shop inside the hotel are quite good. The Courtyard is fabulous! You can spend your whole day relaxing, reading books and having chit chats there. So peaceful and breathtaking! Therefore...Kathmandu Guest House, Thamel...The place you really want to be!

Room Tip: Our room number was 201. It was on first floor and garden faced one. The room had 3 single beds. Enj...
