“Kathmandu's secret charm!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

I would recommend this hotel for someone looking for great location and a comfy stay. It's not a 5 star of course but having spent 2 weeks in volunteer accommodation it almost felt like it! In the very heart of Thamel it is just a stones throw to good local restaurants as well as Western ones if you are missing your routine. A great supermarket just outside of the gate that sells EVERYTHING you will possibly need. Close to lots of attractions too and I did ALL my sightseeing on foot from this hotel. A lively night time spot too pretty much everyday you'll be sure to make friends and explore more. Moving onto India afterwards highlights how polite, helpful, clean and easy the staff were. Happy to help with printing tickets, taxis and accepting of a 2 hour late check-out without any hassle. I hope you enjoy your stay here! The vegetable Momo's are a must to try in the restaurant!! The gated and security staffed entrance isn't daunting and a welcome show of a safe establishment.

Room Tip: Be sure to book a hotel room with a bathroom! I heard there were some that were shared....

This hotel is rich with history (George Harrison used to stay here). It's iconic late 19th century architecture makes you feel as though you are transported into a another epoch altogether. Great staff and terrific food. An oasis smack in the middle of Kathmandu's bustling city.

Its a great place to settle in and start your trip...
Good food.
Lovely gardens.
Nice staff, not too pushy.
Off the noisy street, so road noisy is minium, but morning staff can be a little noisy when starting there duties.
Top place:)

Room Tip: Book one day at a time off peak and ask for upgrades and betters rates if you book extra nights...

A truly wonderful hotel, right in the heart of Thamel. I walked in without a reservation, and the front desk staff were very helpful and courteous in helping me secure a room. I did overpay for the room, but it was a huge one and coming off a 7 day trek in the Himalayas, I figured I could use a bit of "luxury", so to speak. The hotel has a great history behind it and is very well adorned with all sorts of historical relics (albeit replica versions of the same).

At the end of the day, it all depends on your budget and the level of comfort you're looking for.
Yes, by Nepalese standards, I overpaid for my room, but by International standards, I got a basement bargain (for the room they gave me).

Overall, a very pleasant experience and definitely the kind of hotel I'd go back to time and again.
Well done, KGH!

Nostalgic and historical architecture. Sitting in the garden transports you back to a bygone era as you order not so cheap lassies from anywhere in the guest house. The service is very accommodating and all staff welcome you with bounding smiles and helpfulness. Besides the construction from outside depending on which side of the house you stay the rooms are small yet roomy and comfortable. Overall a good stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a whirlwind 2 weeks (where we stayed in cheaper places). This was a splurge so that we could have some comfort at the end of our trip. Luckily for us, they were offering a fantastic special, where our room was half price! We upgraded to one of the best rooms in the new wing of the building (definitely try to get in the new wing). It was worth it! It was a top-notch room, with soft, comfortable beds, a very clean room, with air-conditioning (pure luxury!). And, with the hotel being set back off the main road in Thamel, it is a quiet setting. I heard another guest call it an oasis in Kathmandu- and that's perfect. Best of all was the well-trained staff. Well done management! You're doing a great job training your people. Everyone bent over backwards to be helpful in every way they could. Special thanks to Nabin, the front office manager, for taking such good care of our special airport needs our final morning, to Mani, who we thought was such a friendly, helpful bellboy, and to the travel agent (sorry, we never learned your name!), who was soooo helpful, friendly, and professional. Yes, all the staff was very professional. Loved our stay! Thanks!

Room Tip: New wing if you can afford it!

I love it's courtyard, a great place to get away from the craziness of Thamel. The room is okay(you can find better room for the same price elsewhere), I had hot shower so no complaints. However, it's noisy if you stay close to the stairs.
The breakfast buffet is average and overpriced, you can definitely somewhere better for breakfast.
