“Oasis in Kathmandu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

A lovely quiet oasis in the middle of Kathmandu. The large comfortable bedrooms are furnished in a traditional and luxurious style. They face into a quiet courtyard where there is a bar and restaurant. Great service.

The hotel is conveniently located for the airport so don't miss out on the scenic Buddha Airways Everest flight.

We loved Nepal and it was a great add on to our India Northern Triangle itinerary.

We arrived via a direct flight from Varanasi which was short and convenient. First we spent 2 nights at the Dwarika Dhulikhel for a uniquely relaxing experience. Then we transferred to this hotel for 2 nights before flying back to New Delhi. This itinerary worked really well and it was especially good to have a day relaxing after Varanasi.

Thank you Trinetra for managing our tour.

The completely renovated Dwarika hotel in the heart of Kathmandu is an oasis of tranquility. The staff attentive. The hotel boutiques are also highly recommended, I bought some beautiful gem stones and pashminas from there. We stayed in a suite and it was beautifully decorated. All in all an experience we will never forget.

This is our second trip to Nepal in the past 12 months. On each occasion, we have used Dwarika's Hotel as our main base during our trip. This time, we stayed at Dwarika's on four separate occasions over a 4 week period ... and on each, the service & professionalism of all of the staff was unparalleled as well as the state of our incredible and luxurious rooms. The setting out of the hotel, the Newari architecture, the pieces of local history placed all around the complex are fascinating & beautiful ... it is like walking around a museum, a piece of "living history".

When you arrive back at Dwarika's, the feeling is like "coming home" ... from people at the front entrance to the reception desk and the guys who carry your luggage. The genuinely friendly & caring faces and the "welcome back" greetings provide you with a sense of enjoyment and real contentment, as well as a sense of belonging. We believe this is what sets Dwarika's Hotel apart from the other 5 star international hotels in Kathmandu ... its people ... their warmth, their caring attitude and the way they go about doing their job. I am sure the founder of this establishment, Dwarika Das Shrestha would have been very proud how his dream has evolved.

There are just too many people who we would like to give special mention to for their assistance and making our stays so memorable, but we would like to name a few:- Shiraj (the Night Manager), Shiva (Hospitality / Reception), Sange (IT - for his help with our computer browsing issues), Alpha, Neeta & Handyha (all Restaurant staff), and Dr. Sanjay (for his professional care & consideration).

During this stay at Dwarika's, we used the SPA facilities on a number of occasions due to an ongoing shoulder problem. We found the SPA's menu of services to be quite extensive and what one would expect from a 5 star international hotel. The SPA people were very professional & attentive. We would like to give special mention to Sashi and her magical hands / fingers ... my should will miss you back in Australia. We found the prices for the various treatments to be very reasonable.

We certainly look forward to coming back one day to this "oasis". If you are visiting Kathmandu, this is a "must stay" hotel ... you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: A junior suite - pamper yourself

I stayed here twice en route to Bhutan in April and had a fantastic experience both times. For each stay I had a great room, both spacious and beautifully decorated. Stylish without being ostentatious. The staff are all fantastic, from those on reception through to the restaurant staff and ladies cleaning the rooms. Breakfast is delicious - a buffet with a great variety to choose from and freshly baked bread. Food for dinner is also. I recommend the Lamb Thali.
The pool area is lovely with plenty of comfortable places to relax and great pool-side service.
Dwarika's is in my top ten of hotels I have stayed in.

Room Tip: If you are on the ground floor, you will have to close the curtains / nets, as many look over public...

If you are visiting Kathmandu, only place to stay is Dwarika. It is located very near to Pashupati nath Temple.

Entrance: The outside part of the hotel looks very cramped, but as you enter the doors of Dwarika, it was blissful.

Rooms: We stayed at the Junior suite (didnt remember the exact category), & my god that was one of the room i will never forget. Quite local in every sense. The room is huge almost 50 sq. mtr. All in all a very nicely maintained room.

Taxi: Taxis standing outside always charge double, they will never go by meter. So it is better to walk 100 - 200 mtrs on the right of the hotel towards the red light & you will easily find a taxi much cheaper. Only Maruti 800 is what available in nepal as public taxi.

Room Service & Housekeeping: Room service is quite good. They will go extra mile to please whatever you desire. Since we were pure Vegeterian, & were craving for Indian food they made what we asked for. Housekeeping personals were bang on.

Restaurants: I loved the concept of their Nepali cuisine restaurant. They make you sit on low cusions followed by a set menu. Though i didnt liked the cuisine that much but the way they give you attention is spot on. You can eat as much as you want. The rice Liqueur i liked the most.

Breakfast: You will get lot of choices in the Breakfast. They made allo parantha & curry on our request. though it was not what we usually eat at the indian restaurants but they tried their best.

All in all if you are in Kathmandu & budget is not a problem then this is a place to stay at.

Room Tip: Stay in Junior suite overlooking the patio. Do try their bar in evening, it is very good.

The Dwarika is a renovation on Newari style of an old building. It is simply gorgeous. It frees you from the third world town. Unfortunately, as in all Nepal, the food is quite disappointing. Really a "must go".

Very good and charming, liked the Nepalese restaurant.
Service is not top, but decent enough.
We tried the SPA, the Cocktail bar.
We stayed twice. the first room was on the patio, so nice, but with no intimacy and basic. Second room was much better but with no view.
