The rooms on the 4th floor were fine for both of my stays here. Both had two single beds. They were clean too. The corridor noise comes easily into the rooms, especially as the floors are wooden.

The staff are nice but in some cases not very well trained. Requests for room service or something from the bar seemed to require a second person to confirm. The took a long time to find a wine list. The breakfast is ok.

You have to get a wifi coupon from the front desk. I dislike the fact that you need too pay for a different password for lap top and mobile.

The on going renovations are quite noisy.

I had stayed here 4 times and can really imagine the hotel in its glory days with the sculptors placed throughout the foyer and stairway, carpeted hallway. However, the room, elevator and bathroom need renovation to compete with other renovated hotels. Garden is smaller than the Hyatt, swimming pool also small. Breakfast is not thing special, in the winter one needs to sit indoor and the small dining room can really smell of a potpourri of cooked items. If you look for a clean spartan room at half the price, there are decent options in Thamel. To pay more and relax, the Hyatt is a better option. To pay more and be centrally located in center of Kathmandu, Shangri-La is an option for you.

Room Tip: Ask for garden view room and 3rd floor and above.

Love this hotel and the staff are amazingly helpful. Internet/wifi free in the lobby is a real bonus. The breakfasts are wonderful and had some amazing dinners there. Their coffee bar was my favourite hangout! The gardens are beautifully kept with a team of gardener's and the pool is off to the side and very private surrounded by gardens. I would definitely stay here again! The rooms are also very comfortable and well appointed. The best room service menu I have ever seen with prompt service.

In mid April we enjoyed a two week trip to Nepal that started and ended at the "Shangrila". My understanding before we went was that "Shangrila" was a heavenly place. Well the hotel it certainly lived up to the name in all aspects. It all flows down and through the man in charge - Raju Bikram Shah an excellent host. I would recommend this hotel to anybody and everybody without hesitation. The food was an excellent selection of local and international menus. The service from the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Even a salute at the door! If in Kathmandu go for the "Shangrila"

Room Tip: Inside facing the garden a nice aspect and quiet.

This is a beautiful hotel. Friendly staff and management. Very clean. The hotel has a beautiful garden.Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We travelled with our special needs child and she just simply loved this hotel. It is within walking distant to the shopping complex. We spent one week at this awesome hotel. It is reasonably priced.

We stayed here pre and post Everest Base Camp tour. I found it consistently clean, good service and wide range of food options (including vegetarian and FODMAP options).
Whatever I needed they helped me with - printing documents, posting items back to Aus (complex and pricey but no different to other courier services).
They have a small postbox for postcards which was handy as post offices and post boxes are impossible to find.
Rooms very clean - drinking water supplied in room. Hot shower:)
Safe in room.
Pool.
Lovely grassy area.
Free wifi in foyer (reasonable speed) or pay for in-room use.
They have their own generator so you barely notice the regular power blackouts.
Money exchange available at reception.
There's an ATM on the opposite side of the road about 10 minutes walk (towards Thamel). It currently only lets you withdraw 10,000 rupees per transaction (not unusual for Kathmandu ATMs) but you can make as many withdrawals as you want. Handy. If you don't want to walk there are often taxis literally right out the front door who'll take you there and bring you back for~200rps ($2).
TIP - you can't change rupees back to dollars at the airport without a receipt so keep your receipt! You can't change rupees outside Nepal so do it before you leave!

If you ask reception to call you a taxi to airport they might quote up to 1500rps (~Aus$15), but the guys outside the front door will happily take you for ~500-600rps (negotiate before you get in).

Loved this place, still feels like you are in Nepal and not a same old chain hotel but the friendliness of the staff and cleanliness also felt luxurious for Nepal. Reasonably priced stay, we spent 2 weeks here. Nepal is loud and the bibbing of the horns is constant, this place is just off the main road and a very short walk to the centre 4 minutes I'd say. I would stay her again if I ever had the pleasure of coming to Nepal.

The food in the restaurant is excellent and despite always getting sick I never had a bad belly, just round the corner is java coffee shop where I spent lots of time and again is a haven in amongst the madness.
When in Nepal, haggle loads but make sure it is a price they are happy with too, you are able to get so many wonderful hand made products that you would regret not buying when you get home.

Kathmandu is great but if you get a chance stay at the shangri las sister hotel in pokhura. They will arrange it for you. It's beautiful and you wake up to the Annapurna mountain range in front of your eyes.

Altogether a wonderful place and I often think of Nepal, it has a special place in your heart once you have been.
