“Interesting Experience”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Seeing the Kumari was one of the most fascinating parts of my trip to Nepal. Our guide explained her role and how she is chosen. I was intrigued enough to buy a book on it- "From Goddess to Mortal" written by a formal Kumari.

“Kumari Darshan”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

The urge to see the virgin Goddess was the motive to spend half a day at Kumari Chowk. And we are gratified as she appeared for few minutes at a window on the second floor. They prohibited us taking her photo. Else the whole surrounding with the replica of the England's Queen's Palace and the Old carved building and museum was interesting.

“Interesting”

There is a story behind this.
Every time, from a specific tribe, a girl is chosen to be the Goddess. She must reside here and is revered till she gets her first period.
If you are lucky enough, you will get to see her.

“Kumari-The Living Goddess”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Went to the Kumari Ghar with my 15 yr old son, the Kumari appears around 4 pm everyday - we waited for a long time, me and my son taking pictures of the exquisite wood carvings of the three storeyed building that houses the Living Goddess. There is a courtyard with plenty of greenery against the mohagany backdrop of the palace.

After a long wait, the Kumari appeared and a hushed silence fell on the crowd. Though we knew she was a young girl, but it was surprising to see her small dainty frame- sadness washed over me to see such a small girl taken away from her family, being alone in the palace and worshipped as a Goddess.
