“Racists”

I am married to a fair woman and was told I as an Indian could enter but my WIFE could not. Did not matter if we were Hindu or if she was Hindu. If you are white, you are not allowed in. You can pay 1000 rupees to see bodies being burnt and relatives crying, if you are white, but you cannot pay to enter the temple. It does not matter if you are a white Hindu or a fair indian Hindu, you will be turned away from visiting one of the holiest places in your religion. This goes against everything the hindu religion teaches, it's embarrassing.

“Commercialized Exploitation”

Pashupatinath temple is tauted as one of the most significant Hindu temples of Shiva in the world. The temple is located on the banks of the Bagmati River in the eastern part of Kathmandu and serves as not only a place of worship for Hindus, but also a crematory.

Plain and simply, Pashupatinath Temple is a tourist trap.

Entrance for non-Asians is $10 (1,000 nrs) and that's the first opportunity to fork over money...
Bombarded with people offering a "guided" tour, the average tourist will get fleeced out of money by those looking to earn a quick buck. The Sadhus (Hindu holy men) were opportunistic as well, charging people for photo ops.

The temple complex has a very dark and ominous feel... and something about all of the tourists taking pictures of the funeral pyres and grieving families just doesn't seem fitting or respectful.

Save the 1000 rupees for momo's or a walk around Bhaktapur!

Visiting a place of such a significance and history was very exciting. The statue of Nandi is very attractive. Went on tuesday..thus was saved from the crowds..had a good darshan. As with hindu temples..cleanliness is an issue..Architechure is quite different from temples normally we see in North india.
