Nice tibetan family run hotel, good to escape the noisy streets of Kathmandu. Good food, very sympathetic staff, terrace on the roof. Nice getaway for treks! Would go back for sure for a future trip in Nepal!

This is one of the most respected hotels and restaurants in Thamel. It has a great Tibetan atmosphere. It's clean, safe and secure. The staff is friendly and helpful. They treated me with the utmost respect and kindness. They have free luggage storage while you're off trekking in the mountains, free wifi in the lobby and the best Tibetan food in Nepal. Their Set Tibetan Dish is delicious. I will definitely stay there again.

Centrally located but many disappointing aspects.

Their website says they have hot water 24 hours a day. This is incorrect, for the two days we were there, they had hot water about half the time. Nepal has power cuts throughout so unless a hotel has a generator/gas/solar heat for the hot water, they shouldn't lie to people saying they have hot water 24 hours a day.

Bathroom was dirty, there was water in the tub when we initially checked in and the toilet seat was broken.

booked through Agoda- Per their website, they offer "free courtesy transfer from airport to hotel for all prebooked guests". I emailed them after booking to request a pickup and they replied with a response saying there would be a $10 fee each way since I booked through agoda. Due to lack of internet, I didn't get the email until they picked me up so I was duped into paying the $10 fee. They should be more clear on their website that they only offer free airport pickup for guests booking directly with them, not all prebooked guests. By the way, airport pickup would have been around $5 had I just gotten a taxi at the airport so not only are they charging guests for pickup, they are charging an outlandish price for it.

Would not stay here again, for about $37/night, there are plenty of better places to stay at in Kathmandu,

Really nice option in Thamel. Everyone is super friendly, helpful, and happy to chat. Email responses were really quick - I just emailed them to reserve a room and it was no problem. I also opted for an airport transfer.

Rooms have distinct Tibetan decor and paint. It's refreshing to have all that color in the room! Wifi is pretty good in the lobby. They have filtered water available on every floor - reuse your bottles!!! And go hang out on the beautiful roof terrace.

Also - I lost a memory card during my trip and emailed every hotel to ask if they had found it. Hotel Utse responded immediately with their sympathies and said they searched for it. Lovely.

The hotel is old fashioned, and it's managed by a nice Tibetan family. it is one of the oldest in Thamel; it's quite fascinating. Rooms are simple; the bed linen shows the decades of use. The toilet is really tiny and some insect could come and visit you. In the night you can smell the burnt rubbish, as it is widely used in Kathmandu. They don't have any AC generator, so the power supply is off at least for ten hours/day. Emergency lights are used. The best element of the hotel is the restaurant, where you can find a wide range of dishes, very well prepared. Even the breakfast is really great. The tibetan bread - plain or fried - is unforgettable

This is a old, charming hotel in Tibetan style and with mainly Tibetan staff. Rooms are large and comfy. Restaurant is good especially if in a large group, one can book in advance their fantastic momos and have a great time! Location is good, in The periphery of Thamel, just 5 minutes from Kathmandu guest house.
