I stayed in the hotel in 2010 and again in April 2012.
The management are gradually upgrading the rooms and hte new wet rooms and new mattresses are a great improvement.
Staff are so helpful.
Breakfast is plentiful and something for everyone.
Cakes in the coffee shop are to die for!
Will definately use again.
Happy to store cases for you and let you keep your safe deposit box even when you are away from the hotel with trekking.

Room Tip: Back rooms are quieter

I spent just over two weeks in this hotel in a basic room. It was fine, but what I discovered is that the other hotels I have been in Nepal are much the same (I was in Nepal for over a month). This place is not worth the extra money compared to a cheaper place. Beds are very hard, which seems to be the trend here. The windows don't keep out the street noise, make sure to travel with earplugs! It is however at the end of the Thamel strip which is nice because it is less busy.

Not necessarily the cleanest place. They didn't vacuum my room during my stay, walls and doors were stained. Housekeeping seems to just change the linens and take out the garbage.

Staff were very friendly. WiFi worked well - keeping in mind that there will be power outs when you won't get any.

The shower in my room was a bit awkward. It was a small tub with a step in it. The shower curtain didn't go all the way around and there was always lots of water on the floor - they have strategically placed a drain there but still very wet. Good thing is that water was hot.

Overall a fine experience but wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: When power goes out the elevator doesn't run, if you don't want to climb 5 flights of stairs...

This hotel is located in the main tourist area but is not very noisy. Staff are professional and helpful. Good breakfasts. Size of room and bathroom good, reasonably clean (carpeted unfortunately). On the downside: bedding very hard, walls stained, tacky interior.

This hotel gives excellent value for money if you want to stay in Thamel, can be a bit noisy front side, but back it's nice and quiet. Internet worked fine in my room and the hotel can't be blamed for the load sharing in Nepal. Restaurant serves good food to an acceptable price, and their organic coffee is probably the best in Kathmandu. Same can be said of their staff, no problem is too small for them not to fix. Expect some pigeons.
All in all a good 3 star Asian hotel, I would take my friends there anytime.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony are bigger, but on the front side.

For some reason I kind of liked this hotel, though by American standards it's a bit disastrous. The location is great and the staff is extremely nice. For what my company was paying, I didn't expect anything fancy. That said, here are things that travelers should know:

1) The internet doesn't work in the rooms--the signal is incredibly weak, even when there's electricity. Which brings me to...
2) ...Electricity. It shuts off in Kathmandu a lot. This hotel may have had a generator, but not many things, except maybe some lights, seem to work when the generator is on. This means...
3) There is probably no air conditioning when the regular electricity is off. (It was cool when I was there, but I imagine summer is hot.)
4) The elevator does not work when the electricity is off, which was tough because at one point my room was on the fifth floor (and the ground floor is floor 0, not 1, so it was many flights of stairs).
5) The bathtub looks horrible--maybe it was clean, but visually, it looked gray and spotty and gross. The towels were gray even though they used to be white.
6) The hot water took a while to get to the fifth floor. When I was on the second floor it was a bit better, but it was never more than lukewarm.
7) The mattresses are absolutely rock-hard. This was a common feature in all three hotels I stayed at in various parts of Nepal. I don't mind this but I know other people have back problems.
8) There are HORRIBLE PIGEONS that coo on the rooms' window ledges very early in the morning. This may seem minor but it drove me and my coworker crazy! They coo in an insane way that makes it impossible to sleep, and trying to shoo them away does nothing.

Somehow most of the points above did not bother me, but I know others might feel different. The biggest pain was the internet. I don't get all these hotel staffers (around the world) who smile and say, "But you can use the internet in the lobby, the signal is great there!" Sorry sir, I do not want to use the internet in the lobby. I want to lie in my own room in my pajamas with my hair uncombed and use the internet like a 21st-century human being.

Anyway, it was impossible to be mad at the staff about most of this, because a) Nepal's electrical problems are not their fault and I wasn't paying enough to warrant a really great generator; and b) they're really nice.

Room Tip: Opt for a room on a lower floor since the elevator often doesn't work.
