“Cozy hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013

This hotel is strategically located in the Thamel area which is also an area where most tourists stay. There are many restaurants, souvenir shops and small pubs which are walking distance to the hotel. The hotel itself is very cozy and the rooms comfortable. What makes the stay here even more memorable is the staff. Everyone was friendly (from the manager to the guard) and the concern shown when we stayed in Pokharra/Nagarkot says a lot about this hotel and its management. Would definitely stay here again if we were to make another trip.

Room Tip: Any room would be good. Its not like you'd want to stay in the room the whole day, right?

We were two families with four night stay at Manang during the festival time of Diwali Nov-13.We occupied room no. 406 and 409 . We all enjoyed our stay at Manang.. Being Diwali time the Hotel was beautifully decorated with fresh Marigold flowers and lamps. The rooms were comfortable and clean with cozy beds. We liked the Nepalese cultural show at the Thamel Restaurant adjecent to Manang. The vegetarian food served to us was delicious with Indian touch(Chapatis)on our request. The location of hotel is very nice on the edge of road with the Thamel market place just adjecent to it yet detached from the noisy hustle bustle of the market. Many restaurants were available at walking distance , the market place is a shoppers delight. The travel desk of Hotel Manang very well planned and organized our tour to Pokhra, Manokamna mata temple and visit to Kathmandu spots, the overall journey being very comfortable in the mini Bus provided. The hotel has commendably wonderful staff with great hospitality sense.

I stayed in Hotel Manang with my family for five nights in October 2013. Really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel was in a great location in Thamel, although this is a tourist area, we were in a quieter part which felt very safe and not too noisy.

We were in a family room 401 which was clean, spacious and had a lovely view of the surrounding city and hills. Basic facilities which is all we needed with a hot shower and wifi in the rooms and reception (great to look up maps on google etc).
There are safety deposit boxes in the reception area (not in rooms) but staff were always present there and I had no concerns over safety.

All staff were lovely with a great sense of humour and very easy going, eager to help. In reception Anil and all staff were so helpful with lots of information on places to visit. (especially charitable organisations we wanted to help). Sanjay and porter staff were nice as well as the front gate guards! The kitchen staff were lovely too: Ramesh giri, Suresh, Krishna and chefs such as Ram who would make certain dishes that may not be on the menu (or without meat as we are vegetarian).
There was also a wee dog who I learned was part of the crew lol and although he had no name, he was very quiet and harmless so I named him Mothi (beads) :-)

The market stalls were great to browse any time of the day and there are also many restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is great in that it is not in the 'thick of it' in terms of hustle and bustle.

We saw a lot during our stay and even flew to Pokhara and Sarakhot which was amazing.
I will definitely love to return to this hotel and travel to see more of the beautiful country.

Room Tip: Other side of main entrance (back) has nice views and is quieter

I stayed here before and after a trekking holiday in Nepal. The rooms both times were spacious but very basic. The room temperature was very hot (in October) and very loud noise coming from the street and pigeons outside! Didn't sleep much. The second room smelled of smoke (and we had requested non-smoking room).
Breakfast was also okay, nothing special, but okay.
When we arrived after our trek the hotel manager told us they didn't have our room any more and they were going to send us to a different hotel. We had already paid and booked a room so we told him we didn't want to go to a different hotel. In the end they found a room as if by magic and we could stay there for the two more nights we had booked.
I would recommend it for its location but nothing else. It's an average hotel which does the job but I would expect every hotel in the area to be very similar.

Stayed here 2 nights and then went off to a trekking trip, and came back again for 2 nights. The first 2 nights we were staying in Room 309. It was good - everything was in order save for the water on the tap which is always yellow but I guess that's how it is everywhere?

However, the later 2 nights, we were staying in Room 208 and that was disappointing. I guess like a review said - it depends on your luck. The bathroom standing area was chipping off and old, the tap water was a worse yellow, and the carpet outside the bathroom does not look that clean. We considered changing rooms, but as earlier we had to wait for them to clean the room before we could check in, we guessed they must be pretty full and dropped the idea. Worse, I think the previous occupants had made use of the mini-bar and the hotel staff had forgotten to replace the drinks. So when we checked out, one hotel staff insisted we used the minibar when we did not, and wanted to charge us for it. Thankfully, our travel agent from Asian Journey Trek was around and probably resolved the issue for us.

Service standards are variable when you call from the room. The later 2 nights, they took almost half an hour or longer, and 2-3 calls to be reminded that we ordered hot water. However, the service standard at the breakfast area is excellent most of the time - perhaps owing to a particular staff whom I was lucky enough to meet. I was having sore throat and ordered Hot Honey Lemon which isn't the usual tea or coffee they served and perhaps required extra charge. But owing to her good service or perhaps to the hotel's good relations with our agent, she provided it as a complimentary drink to me for a few of the mornings I asked for it. Generally as well, at the lobby, service is decent and the hotel managers are all very friendly.

For those concerned with security, there is always a guard at the hotel entrance whom is also always polite.

The WIFI connection is free and rather good by Nepal's standards I guess - most of the time, you get a strong connection both in the lobby and in the rooms.

The location is great - it's off on a quiet side of Thamel but yet, Thamel, the shopping district of Kathmandu great for buying trekking gears and apparels, is just right outside our doorsteps. We make a right turn from the hotel entrance and we are right smack in Thamel - very convenient for us to find restaurants, to shop, etc. If you are looking for something authentic and absolutely delicious, I recommend Black Olives Cafe a few minutes' walk from the hotel (it's behind the main street so you need to look out for the sign though). I had naan with chicken kebab - absolutely delicious!

As we got this hotel as part of our trekking package from Asian Journey Treks & Expedition, I am not sure what the price is. But I think it's a decent hotel with generally great warm and friendly service, except that the quality of the rooms is dependent on your luck.

Great hotel in Thamel just off the main shopping area so you have easy access to all the shops and bustling tourist area without all the noise. Very good restaurant in the hotel though breakfast at Manang is not that flash. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Our first room was average when considering where you are in the world though the shower tap did leak and the view from the window was of a brick wall. Our second room was much better with an excellent view over the city and everything to a above average standard. Rooms are a little hit and miss so if you get a bad one it might be worth asking if you can change.

This is my first visit to Nepal for 4 days/3 nights and I really enjoyed the place, even though I only stayed at Hotel Manang and toured the Kathmandu valley and UN Heritage sites. With the very professional service given by the hotel and Club Himalaya Holidays staff, I am planning to come back with more friends to see other tourist spots in Nepal. From: tidex2000
