Making reservation in Kantipur Temple House is an absolutely right choice. We first was attracted with its temple-like construction. The service from hotel staff were sweet. The facility in the room, the cups, pot, carpets, even locker are all well designed and organized. At night, hotel provided two rubber warmers in each bed. When you check-out, don't forget to take the envelop, bookmark, and paper pad with you. They are marvelous souvenirs to bring back. They are really very green stuff and they are also very well designed! Uttamkarki, the head of Chef showed us very warm hospitality. He loves his work and welcome us to visit his remote home in Sunsari. From him, we could understand why Nepalese is rated as most satisfied people in the world. When we stay in the yard in a sunshine afternoon, we thought about to have something to eat. Just by the time, we encountered the restaurant manager in the yard . He quickly made arrangement to set up table for us enjoying sunshine with delicious meal. How wonderful the Kantipur Temple House is! It is near the crowed shopping street but we could not feel that any as we seems in a complete different worlds in Kantipur with what all Kantipur made...

For one of the most expensive hotels in Kathmandu the Kantipur Temple is hidden down a very dingy alley further from the action of Thamel than virtually any other tourist hotel (although still only 15 minutes walk).

The building is nice, reception staff helpful, their restaurant a bit dark and depressing looking so we didn't eat there. We had a deluxe room which was large and attractive. The bed was better than some of the cheaper hotels we stayed in and had an electric blanket but was still pretty hard. During the frequent power cuts there was low voltage backup lighting and they still managed hot water all day. Free wi-fi.

We stayed for 2 nights as a family and enjoyed it very much. Beautiful building, lovely architecture.
The transfer from the airport to the hotel was included in our booking, this was very convenient.
Dinner was nice but it reallt bothered us that the waiter started preparing tables for breakfast in the middle of our dinner at 9pm.
Our nap one afternoon was unfortunately disturbed by staff chatting noisily in the otherwise tranquil courtyard, cleaning ladies shouting down at them, etc.
The staff was very helpful though and gave us a room to rest and freshen up before our return flight.
We ordered toast and coffee room service and were suprised to find some delicious toasted croissants included!
Drinks and meals are more expensive than in other nearby places in Thamel, so I'd recommend the hotel more for sleeping/relaxing than for eating & drinking. But then, enjoying the relaxing courtyard is special and justifies paying a little more.
All in all, a very enjoyable stay in a place with lots of character.

Great location, good service (if you get the right guy at the frog desk). Food speed was a bit slow and quality not the highest, but they serve with a smile. :-).

Electric blankets and putting a hot water bottle in your bed was a great added touch. Room itself bit basic and old (bathroom was kinda dingy).

But overall place had a nice charm.

This hotel is great for providing a simple oasis of calm in the bustling, polluted city centre. It's extremely close to the tourist area but on a quiet sidestreet giving you some sense of much-needed tranquillity (important for sanity in Kathmandu!). Most people seem to complain of noise from their hotels in Thamel but here, that was simply not a problem.
It's fairly clean, a very elegant hotel built in Newari style, with decent rooms and hot showers. The small garden provides a downtime area and the free wifi is a big plus.
However, the service could be much improved. The receptionists certainly don't fall over themselves to help you or to make you feel welcome.
The hotel is dark, and while their eco concept sounds great, perhaps it is also the reason why our towels absolutely stank.
Also, unfortunately their standard double room is actually automatically a twin, ie two single beds. So couples either have to fork out for the posher deluxe rooms, or sleep next to one another in single beds!
The coffee was awful, so we didn't venture to try the other food.
So all in all, it's probably one of the better choices around Thamel, lovely Newari design, also has all the basics, and a nice garden. BUT it's nothing to write home about, and the atmosphere isn't the best.

After 2 weeks travelling around Nepal, this was a welcomed stay. Delux double was very comfortable, spacious and full of character. Shower (after 5 mins) wonderfully hot. Service from staff superb and hot water bottles in bed were a nice touch!

Room Tip: Delux double!

Stayed here for two nights and found it to be a lovely oasis of calm. Built in a traditional style with an attention to detail.
Our room looked over the inner courtyard and although a little dark was very comfortable - really appreciated the electric blanket!
All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good.
Our stay here was relaxing and we would recommend the hotel to other travellers.
