After travelling from China to Lhasa, and down to Everest on 4x4, then onto rafting in Nepal, we arrived at this serene oasis in the city. The staff was incredible and the room so very comfortable.
The view from our room was into the interior of the complex, which is open to the sky. It was nice to view and admire the traditional Nepalese architecture and the wooden carvings on it.
The standard rooms were fully booked out and they offered us the deluxe with some discount. I booked a room on a higher floor. Note: because it is a reasonably old building, you will have to walk the stairs. But it was ok for us, since the stairs were made of beautiful marbles. The rooms floor is wooden, brick walls and full of carvings everywhere you look.
Arriving in this place through all the places we stayed in Tibet as well as camping in the Nepalese outdoors was like entering heaven. We all finally managed to relax.
The ambiance feels zen and calm with smiley faces.
The hotel is environmentally aware, giving hints and using sustainable products.
I would go back to this hotel everytime. It is really nice.

Room Tip: The Deluxe was good enough.

This is one of this places, you should visit, the arquitecture, rooms, personal, enviroment frindly. Food is excellent. The rubber warmer bags, electrical covers, towels, etc...
It´s like a dream house, were ever you see, they have a detail, esculture, paint, handpaint, candle, chair, everthing is perfect. I´m sure if sometime I go back to kathmandu, India or Tibet, I make a stop again in the PERFECT "Kantipur Temple House"

We stayed two nights in late January and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was a nice size, the hot water was actually very hot all the time (rare in Kathmandu to find!) and the electric blanket and hot water bottles were a very pleasant surprise! I agree with other reviewers in that it was a bit dark in the rooms and the restaurant is a tad unappealing (don't go there unless you are starving and have no options - it is pretty expensive and lacking in atmosphere). However, it is a beautiful place to stay and convenient for shopping in Thamel and being in the heart of the area if that's what you are after. A bit pricey (PS don't go for the breakfast) but justifiably calls itself a 4* hotel, unlike some other places in Kathmandu which oversold themselves...

Making reservation in Kantipur Temple House is an absolutely right choice. We first was attracted with its temple-like construction. The service from hotel staff were sweet. The facility in the room, the cups, pot, carpets, even locker are all well designed and organized. At night, hotel provided two rubber warmers in each bed. When you check-out, don't forget to take the envelop, bookmark, and paper pad with you. They are marvelous souvenirs to bring back. They are really very green stuff and they are also very well designed! Uttamkarki, the head of Chef showed us very warm hospitality. He loves his work and welcome us to visit his remote home in Sunsari. From him, we could understand why Nepalese is rated as most satisfied people in the world. When we stay in the yard in a sunshine afternoon, we thought about to have something to eat. Just by the time, we encountered the restaurant manager in the yard . He quickly made arrangement to set up table for us enjoying sunshine with delicious meal. How wonderful the Kantipur Temple House is! It is near the crowed shopping street but we could not feel that any as we seems in a complete different worlds in Kantipur with what all Kantipur made...

Room Tip: the side facing the courtyard

For one of the most expensive hotels in Kathmandu the Kantipur Temple is hidden down a very dingy alley further from the action of Thamel than virtually any other tourist hotel (although still only 15 minutes walk).

The building is nice, reception staff helpful, their restaurant a bit dark and depressing looking so we didn't eat there. We had a deluxe room which was large and attractive. The bed was better than some of the cheaper hotels we stayed in and had an electric blanket but was still pretty hard. During the frequent power cuts there was low voltage backup lighting and they still managed hot water all day. Free wi-fi.

We stayed for 2 nights as a family and enjoyed it very much. Beautiful building, lovely architecture.
The transfer from the airport to the hotel was included in our booking, this was very convenient.
Dinner was nice but it reallt bothered us that the waiter started preparing tables for breakfast in the middle of our dinner at 9pm.
Our nap one afternoon was unfortunately disturbed by staff chatting noisily in the otherwise tranquil courtyard, cleaning ladies shouting down at them, etc.
The staff was very helpful though and gave us a room to rest and freshen up before our return flight.
We ordered toast and coffee room service and were suprised to find some delicious toasted croissants included!
Drinks and meals are more expensive than in other nearby places in Thamel, so I'd recommend the hotel more for sleeping/relaxing than for eating & drinking. But then, enjoying the relaxing courtyard is special and justifies paying a little more.
All in all, a very enjoyable stay in a place with lots of character.

Great location, good service (if you get the right guy at the frog desk). Food speed was a bit slow and quality not the highest, but they serve with a smile. :-).

Electric blankets and putting a hot water bottle in your bed was a great added touch. Room itself bit basic and old (bathroom was kinda dingy).

But overall place had a nice charm.
